US officer and SDF fighters killed in Daesh ambush

07 April 2020; MEMO: An officer in the US army and two fighters from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been killed in an ambush in Syria’s eastern province of Deir Ez-Zor.

The gunmen are reported to have been from the Daesh.

The ambush took place in the town of Al-Sur, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) tweeted yesterday.

Turkish military hacks into Syria regime radio to broadcast warning

02 April 2020; MEMO: Turkey’s armed forces in Syria’s north-west province of Idlib have hacked into Syrian army radio frequencies yesterday and issued a warning not to violate the de-escalation zone. Local sources reported the incident to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Syria's air defenses respond to Israeli missile strike in Homs province

DAMASCUS, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian air defenses responded to an Israeli missile strike in the central province of Homs on Tuesday evening, state TV reported.

The Israeli warplanes fired missiles from inside the Lebanese airspace, said the report, adding that a number of missiles were intercepted.

The missiles were targeting military positions, said the report, adding that the Syrian air defenses used big fire power to intercept the missiles.

Syrian Regime, Russia kill 387 civilians in Idlib

29 Mar 2020; MEMO: The Syrian regime and its allies killed hundreds of civilians in northwestern Idlib city between the period of two cease-fire deals reached on Jan. 12 and March 6 by Ankara and Moscow, according to a rights watchdog, Anadolu reports.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) reported that aggression of the Bashar al-Assad regime, Iran-backed foreign terrorist groups, and Russia left 387 civilians dead.

War-torn Syria braces for lockdown after first virus case

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syrians rushed to stock up on food and fuel Monday amid fears that authorities would resort to even stricter measures after reporting the first coronavirus infection in the country, where the health care system has been decimated by nearly a decade of civil war.

The arrival of the global pandemic in Syria as well as the Gaza Strip has raised concerns it could run rampant in some of the most vulnerable areas in the Middle East. War-torn Libya and Yemen, which have yet to report any cases, are also a source of concern.

Syrian president issues general amnesty

DAMASCUS, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday issued a general amnesty involving crimes committed before March 22, state news agency SANA reported.

The presidential pardon excludes crimes of smuggling weapons and explosives as well as those who committed murders.

The amnesty will also not cover the fugitives.

Assad has issued many pardons during the nine-year-long Syrian war.

His last pardon was issued in September 2019.

Syria, Russia presidents discuss cease-fire in Idlib over phone

DAMASCUS, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, according to the state news agency SANA.

The two sides discussed the development of a cease-fire agreement which was reached by Turkey and Russia and went into force in Idlib, Syria, on March 5, the report said, adding that violations committed by the rebels were also discussed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday that cautious calm is prevailing in part of Idlib province.

DAMASCUS, Mar 21 (NNN-SANA) – Cautious calm is prevailing in part of Idlib province in northwestern Syria, as a cease-fire has been in place for 15 days, a war monitor reported.

The cease-fire, which was brokered by Turkey and Russia and went into force on Mar 5, is still holding, in spite of some violations, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said, the areal bombardment has stopped during the last 15 days.
