Indian Govt giving assets to private sector at throwaway prices: Pilot

Jaipur, Aug 25 (PTI) Congress leader Sachin Pilot lashed out at the Centre on Wednesday over its asset monetisation programme, saying the central government should help the poor and the middle class instead of giving away the assets created in the past 70 years to the private sector at throwaway prices.

The former Rajasthan deputy chief minister also accused the BJP of misleading people and doing divisive politics.

India: Snake bites man, then man bites snake in revenge and kills it

Jajpur (Odisha), Aug 12 (PTI) In a bizarre case of human revenge, a 45-year-old tribal man reportedly bit a snake to death after the latter bit him in a remote village in Odisha's Jajpur district.

Kishore Badra of Gambharipatia village under Salijanga panchayat under Danagadi block was returning home after working in his paddy field on Wednesday night, when a snake bit him on his leg.

Badra managed to capture the viper and bit it to death in a bid to take revenge.

India: Raj govt to provide interest-free loan to street vendors

Jaipur, Aug 10 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has introduced a scheme to provide interest-free loan up to Rs 50,000 to street vendors, people in the age group of 18-40 years working in the service sector and unemployed of urban areas hit by Covid-19-induced financial crisis.

In compliance with the budget announcement made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the finance department issued a circular regarding the Indira Gandhi Urban Credit Card Scheme- 2021 last week.

India: AAP leader says party to strengthen base in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 8 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will increase its strength in Rajasthan and mobilise its workers at the grassroots level, party leader Khemchand Jagirdar said on Sunday.

He said the people are "upset" with both major political parties and the AAP will pose a challenge to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming time.

Jagirdar said AAP's state-incharge and MP Sanjay Singh will address a divisional level workers' conference in Sriganganagar.

India: Man gets 20-year jail in rape case

Kota (Raj), Jul 30 (PTI) A POCSO court in Rajasthan's Bundi on Friday sentenced a man to 20-year imprisonment for raping a minor girl three years ago.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 upon the convict.

Public prosecutor Rakesh Thakur said Yaadram Jat of Alwar district had raped a four-year-old girl in June 2018 and a complaint against him was lodged by her parents.

Judge Alka Bansal held him guilty of the crime under Sections 376 of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO Act, he said.

India: All Rajasthan districts to have medical colleges: Gehlot

Jaipur, Jul 9 (PTI) All Rajasthan districts will have medical colleges and the state government has fulfilled all necessary conditions for it, said Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday.

"It is a matter of pride for us. It is our endeavour that the medical facilities in the state should be even better. For this, medical infrastructure is being strengthened continuously from cities to villages," Gehlot said in a statement.

India: Two get life term in rape case in Raj

Kota (Raj), Jul 8 (PTI) A court here sentenced two people to life imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old mentally challenged, deaf and mute girl two years ago.

The POCSO court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of them, public prosecutor Lalit Sharma said.

He said as the girl was mentally challenged, statements of three women who had rescued her with her brother were decisive in the conviction of Babulal (54) and Brijmohan (62), both residents of the Budhadeet police station area in Kota district.

India: 11-yr-old girl gang-raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 24 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two people, including a minor, in Nagaur district of Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.

The accused and the victim are known to each other. They called the girl outside her house and took her to a nearby place where they committed the crime, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night and an FIR was registered on Wednesday after which both the accused were held, they said.

India: COVID-19 vaccination for Pakistani Hindu migrants begins in Jodhpur

Jodhpur, Jun 11 (PTI) The district authorities on Friday started COVID-19 vaccination for Pakistani Hindu migrants who do not have Indian identity documents, officials said.

The migrants were given jabs on the basis of their Pakistani passports, they said.

Around 100 migrants got the much-awaited vaccine jab at one of the camps on the first day of the exercise started for them in the district, the officials said.

India: Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor, 3 councilors suspended; BJP fumes

Jaipur, Jun 7 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has suspended the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor and three councilors for allegedly misbehaving with the local body's commissioner, drawing a sharp reaction from the BJP.

The Congress government also decided to conduct a judicial inquiry in the matter.
