Iranian official says 83% of people arrested during Tehran protests were released

27 Dec 2022; MEMO: Tehran Prosecutor General Ali Alqasi-Mehr announced on Monday, that 83 per cent of those arrested in connection with the recent "riots" in Tehran province have been released, Iranian Mehr News Agency reported.

The agency quoted Alqasi-Mehr as saying that the number of "rioters" detained in Tehran was "very small," explaining that the detainees included key elements and leaders of the riots.

Russian airline cancels all flights from Russia to Egypt

27 Dec 2022; MEMO: iFly Airlines has notified tour operator Tez Tour about the forced cancellation of all international flights from Russia to Egypt due to the lack of permission to use Jordan's airspace and restrictions on overflight imposed by several other countries, Russia's TASS news agency reported.

iFly airline asked the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency to allow it to fly through Syria, but the agency refused, considering it unsafe.

Egypt: Sisi says government will not reduce projects' spending

27 Dec 2022; MEMO: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said the government will not cut spending on national projects, despite the scarcity of US dollars in the market.

Speaking during the inauguration of a project in Egypt, El-Sisi said Egypt is continuing to spend on national projects without paying attention to the pressure resulting from the scarcity of the US dollar supply in the market.

Since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, more than $23 billion worth of investments have exited Egypt.

Ronaldo under 'political ban' for supporting Palestine; Turkish President

28 Dec 2022; MEMO: Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo was a victim of "a political ban" at the Qatar World Cup as a result of his support for the Palestinian cause, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday.

"They have wasted Ronaldo. Unfortunately, they have imposed a political ban on him," Erdogan told youth in an event in Turkey's eastern city of Erzurum.

Saudi Arabia to hold Hajj Expo 2023 from Jan 9

RIYADH, Dec 27 (APP): The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will organize the ‘Hajj Expo 2023’ conference and exhibition January 9-12, 2023.

The four-day event, being held under the patronage of Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Makkah Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, was part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to build an innovative ecosystem of services and solutions to better serve pilgrims at the Two Holy Mosques, while enhancing their religious and cultural experiences, a ministry press release said.

54 Injured In Blast At Paint Manufacturing Plant In NW Iran

TEHRAN, Dec 27 (NNN-TASNIM) – At least 54 people were injured, in an explosion and the consequent fire at a paint manufacturing plant, in the north-western Iranian city of Tabriz.

The blast occurred at Mamaqan Shahid Salimi Industrial Park, yesterday afternoon, affecting around 150 individuals, of whom 54 have sustained injuries, Hamid Monajjem, managing director of East Azarbaijan province’s Red Crescent Society, was quoted as saying.

He added that, firefighters are trying to contain the fire.

Israeli doctors reject Netanyahu ally’s anti-LGBTQ remarks

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s largest medical center and health care workers from hospitals around the country have spoken out against remarks by allies of Benjamin Netanyahu calling for a law to allow discrimination against LGBTQ people in hospitals and businesses.

It was part of a broader blowback against remarks made this week by Religious Zionism politicians calling for legal discrimination against LGBTQ people.
