Thousands Protest In Iraq To Demand Ouster Of US Troops

BAGHDAD, Jan 25 (NNN-NINA) – Thousands of supporters of Iraqi cleric, Moqtada Sadr, gathered in Baghdad for a rally, to demand the ouster of US troops.

The march rattled the separate, months-old protest movement, that gripped the capital and the Shiite-majority south since Oct, demanding a government overhaul, early elections and more accountability.

In the early hours of Friday, thousands of men, women and children of all ages massed under grey skies in the Jadiriyah district of east Baghdad.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Thousands of supporters of an influential, radical Shiite cleric gathered Friday in central Baghdad for a rally to demand that American troops leave the country amid heightened anti-US sentiment after a drone strike ordered by Washington earlier this month killed a top Iranian general in the Iraqi capital.

Since mid-morning on the Muslim day of prayers, loudspeakers blasted “No, no America!” at a central square in the Iraqi capital. A child held up a poster reading, “Death to America. Death to Israel.”

10 Killed In Iraq’s Anti-Gov’t Demonstrations Over Past Two Days

BAGHDAD, Jan 22 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Independent High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR), said, 10 protesters were killed and 159 others injured, during the past two days of anti-government protests.

A statement by IHCHR said that the commission’s teams, deployed in the protests sites of Baghdad and a number of Iraqi provinces, registered some violent acts that caused casualties and arrests, during clashes between the demonstrators and security forces.

Three Demonstrators Killed As Anti-Gov’t Protests Escalate In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Jan 21 (NNN-NINA) – Three demonstrators were killed and dozens of protesters and security members wounded, in Baghdad and other cities, as anti-government protests flared over corruption, lack of jobs and public services, a Ministry official said.

“The latest reports showed that, three demonstrators, including civil society activist, Yousif Sattar, were killed and up to 54 demonstrators wounded and suffocated,” the official said.

Rockets hit Iraqi military base hosting Americans

16 Jan 2019; MEMO: An Iraqi military base hosting American troops in the north of the country’s capital city of Baghdad was attacked by a missile.

According to a statement by the Iraqi army, the Al-Taji base was targeted by eight Russian-manufactured Katyusha missiles, but it was said to have only hit its surrounding areas.
