India: Jobless man hangs self to death live on Fb

Kota Apr 20 (PTI) A 35-year-old man went live on a social media platform while committing suicide here allegedly out of joblessness, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday night when Manish Singh, a resident of Sakatpura colony under Kunhari police station in Kota, went live on Facebook while hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his house, said Sub Inspector Laxman Lal Mehra of the police station.

It's all well, friends. Adieu! Now I leave, are the last words of the man, heard on the Facebook, the police official said.

India: Around 77,000 migrant workers sent home: Ghaziabad admin

Ghaziabad, Apr 20 (PTI) The district administration here on Tuesday said around 77,000 migrant workers were sent home in over 1,500 buses.

Though the workers had started returning home after a rise in coronavirus cases, their number swelled after the Delhi government imposed a week-long lockdown on Monday, an official said.

According to District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey, around 77,000 workers were sent to their destinations in 1,537 buses.

India: UP man awarded 7-year jail term for raping minor

Mahoba (UP), Apr 21 (PTI) A local court here has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for raping a 16-year-old girl five years ago.

Additional District and Sessions (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, Special judge Santosh Kumar Yadav on Tuesday also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Umesh Singh for raping the girl on December 21, 2016.

Official data of new Covid infections and deaths in India are highly under-stated

According to the official data the number of daily cases and deaths has risen sharply in the second wave that started at the beginning of March 2021. New corona cases and deaths have risen exponentially since then.

Three Killed, Three Wounded In Car Bomb Blast In Afghanistan’s Herat Province

HERAT, Apr 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Three people, including an assailant, were killed and three others wounded, when a suicide car bomb rocked a police station, in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat early today, the provincial governor confirmed.

“The incident occurred outside the police station of Ghoryan district, in the western part of Herat, roughly at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, local time,” Governor Sayyed Waheed Qatali, said.

India: Industries can wait for oxygen, not COVID-19 patients: Delhi HC

New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Tuesday said sufficient oxygen was not being supplied to COVID-19 patients in the national capital and asked the Centre if it can be diverted from industries which can wait for now.

"Industries can wait. Patients cannot. Human lives are at stake," a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli said to the central government.

SC to hear UP govt's plea against HC order directing it to impose strict restrictions in five cities

New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) The Supreme Court agreed to hear on Tuesday itself the plea of the Uttar Pradesh government against the Allahabad High Court order directing it to impose strict restrictions till April 26 in five cities amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde.

Mehta, while referring to the high court's order passed on Monday, said that a virtual lockdown is declared by a judicial order for a week .

Indian DM asks armed forces to help civil administration in Covid fight

New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) As India reels under a massive spike in coronavirus cases, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the Army to extend assistance to state administrations to deal with the pandemic, including by offering help in creation of additional capacities to treat COVID-19 patients.

India: Govt to provide Rs 4,500 cr booster to vaccine manufacturers for ramping up capacity

New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) Looking to ramp up supplies ahead of the opening of Covid-19 vaccination to all citizens over 18 years of age, the government has approved a payment of about Rs 4,500 crore as advance to vaccine makers like Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech against future supplies, sources said.

SII will supply 200 million doses and Bharat Biotech is to supply another 90 million doses to the government by July at a pre-agreed rate of Rs 150 per dose.

India: Farmers gherao police station in Haryana's Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra, Apr 19 (PTI) Several farmers on Monday gheraoed the Ismailabad police station here and blocked a highway against the arrests made in connection with the alleged manhandling of a BJP leader.

Police have arrested three farmers for allegedly chasing, abusing, and manhandling Haryana Vimukt Ghumantu Jati Board Vice-Chairman Jai Singh Pal.

A video of the incident also surfaced on social media, in which farmers could be purportedly seen chasing and abusing Pal, who was recently appointed the vice-chairman of the board.
