India: J&K: NC, PDP seek order on merging, closing sick PSUs revoked

Srinagar, Jul 16 (PTI) The National Conference and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration to rescind a six month old order to merge or close several sick public sector undertakings in the union territory.

"The J&K government's decision to close many PSUs is shocking....This order is unfair and must be rescinded," National Conference tweeted on it official handle.

India: Guj woman cop who took on minister's son says she has resigned

Surat, Jul 16 (PTI) Woman police constable Sunita Yadav, who had a confrontation with a minister's son over lockdown violation which led to his arrest here in Gujarat, claimed she has resigned from service.

However, a senior police official has denied it.

Prakash Kanani, the son of Gujarat Minister of State for Health Kumar Kanani, and his two friends were arrested on Sunday for allegedly violating the lockdown and night curfew orders in Surat, a COVID-19 hotspot, a senior police official earlier said.

India: Jio developing homegrown 5G telecom solution: Ambani

Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday announced his group's digital arm Jio developing a homegrown 5G telecom solution.

"Jio has designed and developed a complete 5G solution from scratch. It will be ready for trials as soon as 5G spectrum is available and can be ready for field deployment next year," Ambani said at Reliance Industries' annual general meeting.

India: Man gets life term in dowry death case

Kota, Jul 15 (PTI) A court awarded life imprisonment to a 24-year-old man in a dowry death case in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district on Wednesday.

The court convicted Shiv Puri, a resident of Chan Ka Kheda village in Dug area, in the dowry death case and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

According to Additional Public Prosecutor Lokesh Gupta, Puri got married to Maya Goswami (20), a native of Agar Malwa district in Madhya Pradesh, in February, 2016 and allegedly harassed her for dowry for around a year.

India: Maha gov plans online sale and purchase of goats for Bakri Eid

Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) The Maharashtra government will set up an online mechanism for the sale and purchase of goats for upcoming Bakri Eid festival, state minister Aslam Shaikh said on Wednesday.

No permission will be given to celebrate any festival in coronavirus containment zones, he said.

He said while guidelines for Eid will be framed soon, gathering of people for 'qurbani' (sacrifice) of goats will not be allowed.

Markets will be allowed only on open grounds, an official statement quoted the Mumbai city guardian minister as saying.

India: Passbook printing machine runs oddly at bank's branch in Jajmau

KANPUR: What is the use of Passbook Printing Machine in the bank's branch if it is not functioning properly! 

Not only one but several other savings accounts holders of a nationalised bank's branch in Jajmau find the machine unusual. The passbook once inserted for printing the balance details does not come out of the machine. It remains inside the machine until someone's help does not emanate.

The quick answer from the bank officials for this fault remains server is not working in order. But when the server is down how do other transactions carry on the counter? 

India: Haryana govt to open 1,000 play schools

Chandigarh, Jul 15 (PTI) The Haryana government is all set to open 1,000 playway schools to provide quality education and learning among children aged between three to six years.

The announcement to open these schools was made in this year's Budget and a formal decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday.

Education Minister Kanwar Pal was also present in the meeting, an official statement said.

India records over 30,000 COVID-19 cases in single day for first time

New Delhi, July 16 (PTI) COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 30,000 mark in a single day for the first time pushing the tally to 9,68,876 on Thursday, while the death toll climbed to 24,915 with 606 people succumbing to the disease, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

India: All Punjab ministers to undergo coronavirus test

Chandigarh, Jul 15 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has advised his cabinet colleagues to undergo test for coronavirus after one of the ministers tested positive for the infection.

All the cabinet ministers will give their samples for testing (coronavirus) today. Their results will come by today evening or tomorrow, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu told reporters here on Wednesday.

India: Google picks 7.7 pc stake in Jio for Rs 33,373 cr

Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) Google has agreed to invest Rs 33,737 crore to buy a 7.7 per cent stake in Reliance Industries' technology venture, adding to a slew of investments since April that has crossed Rs 1.52 lakh crore.

California-based Alphabet Inc joins Facebook Inc, which opened the investment cycle in Jio Platforms by picking 9.99 per cent stake for Rs 43,573.62 crore, as well as chipmaker Intel Corp and Qualcomm Inc.
