India: UP govt to bring in a new tenancy-related ordinance

Lucknow, Jan 9 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to promulgate a tenancy-related ordinance aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of both the landlords and tenants and check disputes between them.

The ordinance was approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday night and is likely to receive Governor Anandiben Patel's assent soon, said an official on Saturday.

India: Chhattisgarh health minister opposes use of Covaxin

Raipur, Jan 9 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Health Minister T S Singh Deo on Saturday said the use of COVID-19 vaccine `Covaxin' must not be allowed in the state as its third-phase trial data has not been published yet.

He said he was not "confident" about asking people to take this vaccine.

Covaxin, indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech, has got approval for emergency use alongwith Oxford -AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine.

"The third phase trial of Covaxin is under process.

Sri Lankan Navy apprehends nine Indian fishermen

Rameswaram (TN), Jan 10 (PTI) The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested nine Indian fishermen and seized one boat for allegedly fishing in that country's waters, besides damaging fishing nets in a separate incident, officials said here on Sunday.

The fishermen were arrested near Neduntheevu on Saturday, Fisheries department officials said, adding that one boat was also seized by the Lankan navy.

In a separate incident, the Lankan navy personnel allegedly damaged fishing nets in 20 mechanised boats near Katchatheevu on Saturday, the officials added.

India: Amid bird-flu, 6 crows found dead in UP's Amethi

Amethi (UP), Jan 10 (PTI) Amid a bird-flu scare in several states, six crows were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Sangrampur area in this Uttar Pradesh district, officials said on Sunday.

Chief Veterinary Officer of Amethi Dr MP Singh said the crows were found dead at different places of Kaiti village in the Sangrampur police station area. A team of doctors, along with forest officers, is being sent to the village and the samples of the dead birds will be sent for testing, he added.

India: 15 yr old rape survivor with 7-month pregnacy dies in UP

Bareilly (UP), Jan 10 (PTI) A 15-year-old rape survivor who was seven months pregnant died of pregnancy-related complications at the district hospital here, police said on Sunday.

She was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night and passed away on Thursday night, they said.

Additional Director and Superintendent In-Charge of the hospital Dr Subodh Sharma said the girl was brought to the hospital in serious condition and her health deteriorated further.

Despite best efforts by the doctors, she could not be saved, he added.

India: Kanpur zoo shut after bird flu confirmed in dead fowls

Kanpur, Jan 10 (PTI) The Kanpur Zoological Park has been closed for visitors till further orders after samples taken from two dead birds found there tested positive for the avian influenza virus, an official said on Sunday.

The area up to one kilometre of the zoo has been declared an infected zone and the culling of birds has begun there, said Additional District Magistrate (City) Atul Kumar.

India's COVID-19 tally over 10 million, 18,645 fresh cases

New Delhi, Jan 10 (PTI) India's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,04,50,284 with 18,645 infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have surged to 1,00,75,950, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Sunday.

The death toll reached 1,50,999 with 201 more people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India's civil aviation regulator issues guidelines to airlines for carrying COVID-19 vaccines

NEW DELHI, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- India's civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has issued guidelines to airlines and other aircraft operators for transporting COVID-19 vaccines, officials said Saturday.

"All scheduled operators who have been currently authorized to carry dangerous goods may carry COVID-19 vaccine packed in dry ice, meeting the regulatory requirements," read the guideline issued by DGCA.

India: India requests China for crew change on stranded Indians aboard 2 ships

New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI) India on Friday said its Ambassador in Beijing has taken up with the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister the issue of 39 Indian sailors stranded on two cargo ships in Chinese waters and requested early approval for crew change for Indian crew members aboard the two vessels.

Citing coronavirus-related restrictions, Chinese authorities have not allowed the ships, MV Jag Anand and MV Anastasia, to either dock or go for a crew change for months.

India: Punjab bans import of poultry items due to bird flu concerns

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (PTI) The Punjab government on Friday banned the import of poultry birds from other states with immediate effect till January 15.

"The government of Punjab imposes complete ban on import of live birds, including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat, for any purpose into the state of Punjab," the order issued by the state Animal Husbandry Department stated.

The decision will be reviewed based on the evolving situation, it said.
