India: Rape case filed against swimming coach in Goa

Panaji/New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) A case of rape and criminal intimidation as well as for offences under the POCSO Act was registered against a swimming coach by Goa Police on Thursday.

Surajit Ganguly, a coach employed with the Goa Swimming Association (GSA), is accused of molesting a 15- year-old girl who was training under him.

India: Modi-led govt to be in power for next 25 years: Sawant

Panaji, Aug 19 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has claimed that the Modi-led government will continue to rule the country "for another 25 years".

In the coming days, the BJP-led central government will take "many decisions" which are in the pipeline and after that, "no one will be able to replace" the dispensation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sawant said addressing a convention of BJP workers here on Sunday evening.

India: Abrogation of Article 370 "beginning of establishing a Hindu Rashtra": HJS

Panaji, Aug 5 (PTI) Right-wing organisation Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Monday said the Centre's move to abolish Article 370, that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was the "beginning of establishing a Hindu Rashtra".

The Centre on Monday abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution and proposed that the border state be bifurcated into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

India: Doctors go on flash strike in Goa over attack on colleagues

Puducherry, July 16 (PTI) Doctors and health staff of a government hospital here went on a two-hour-long strike Tuesday to protest against the alleged assault on their colleagues by a group of people for the delay in arranging a hearse to take their relative's body, police said.

Doctors and employees in various primary health centres and government hospitals in the peripheral pockets also resorted to a strike to seek protection to the medicos and arrest of all those who allegedly assaulted the doctors and damaged property.

India: Goa govt mulling interest-free loan scheme for farmers

Panaji, Jun 29 (PTI) The Goa government Saturday announced introduction of an interest-free loan scheme for farmers for varying durations.

The scheme would be formulated after tabling of Budget in Parliament next week, Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai said.

"The Goa government wants to take up all possible measures to help the farming community and also to encourage more people take this profession. Our aim is to bring fallow land under cultivation," Sardesai said while addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Zonal Agricultural Office in Sanguem in south Goa.

India: Man held for rape of 17-year-old girl in Goa

Panaji, Jun 27 (PTI) A man was Thursday arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl at Cujira village near here, police said.

The incident had taken place in November last year, police said.

The accused, Mohammed Rafik Patel, 31, was arrested after a complaint was filed against him by the victim's mother on Thursday at Old Goa police station.

India: Man arrested for raping 14-year-old girl

Panaji, Jun 21 (PTI) A 40-year-old man was arrested in Goa Thursday for allegedly raping a minor girl.

Imtiaz Hakim, the accused, allegedly raped the14- year-old girl in his car after offering her lift when she was on her way to tuition two months ago.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Porvorim) Edwin Colaco said the girl did not disclose the incident to anyone for a long time.

Goa and Oman set to revive their Portuguese-era ties

Panaji, Jun 19 (PTI) Goa and Oman will revive their ties dating back to the Portuguese era through archives as a part of the Central government's initiative to foster relations between the two countries, an official said here Wednesday.

Officials of the National Records and Archives Authority, Sultanate of Oman, are in Goa to interact with various government agencies, including state Archives and Archaeology department, as a part of understanding between both the governments.

India: Two arrested for raping woman inside car

Panaji, Jun 14 (PTI) Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman friend inside a car near the Miramar beach here.

Gautam Raikar (25) and Sarvesh Kauthankar (24) were arrested Thursday after the 40-year-old woman filed a complaint, said inspector Sudesh Naik.

The accused hail from Curchorem village in South Goa district, he said.

India: Goa Congress rejects BJP's claim about its MLAs

Panaji, Jun 13 (PTI) The Congress in Goa Thursday rubbished the BJP's claim that 10 of its MLAs were keen to join the ruling party, but were denied entry into the saffron fold.

Goa BJP chief Vinay Tendulkar had Wednesday claimed that 10 Congress MLAs had expressed their willingness in the last fortnight to join the saffron party.

The BJP, however, refused to accept them into the party fold as it had comfortable majority in the Assembly, Tendulkar had said.
