India: Only 21% fully vaccinated, PM Modi misleading country: Congress

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) The Congress on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of misleading the country on vaccinations when only 21 per cent of the country's population was fully vaccinated.

The opposition party asked the prime minister to bring out a white paper on how his government intends to vaccinate all adults by year-end, a promise made by him earlier.

India: Joint oil procurement to cut import bill: Oil Minister

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) India is looking to bring together PSU and private sector refiners to seek better crude oil import deals from Saudi Arabia and other nations, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday.

As the country grapples with record-high fuel prices, he said joint procurement will bring better bargaining power and help cut the import bill.

India: Modi govt subscribes to pluralism in world, supports majoritarianism in India: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday alleged that the Modi government subscribes to pluralism in the world but supports majoritarianism in India.

He said the new Quad consists of four countries that reflect the pluralism of the world with the US (secular, but mainly Christian), India (secular, but mainly Hindu), Israel (Jewish) and the UAE (Islamic).

India: Man held for assaulting fiancee from Kanpur

Kanpur: A Delhi-based man was arrested from Kanpur on Wednesday for allegedly raping and assaulting his 21-year-old fiancee, the Noida police said.

He was absconding since an FIR was lodged against him on July 17. He lived in Zakir Nagar area of Delhi. 

"The accused's fiancee lives in Noida. She got a police complaint lodged claiming rape and assault by the man in March.

She had also claimed that the accused had threatened to harm her if she told anyone about the incident," a police spokesperson said.

India: Yogi govt kills, then grants compensation: AAP leader

Agra, Oct 20 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's regime, the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated to a new low.

The Yogi regime has the policy of killing and granting compensation as seen in Gorakhpur and Lakhimpur Kheri, he told reporters after meeting the family members of the man who died in police custody.

India: Nepalese woman raped in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) A Nepalese national has allegedly been raped by a man in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony area, police said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Greater Kailash police station received information regarding sexual assault of a woman by a person known to her, they said.

During inquiry, the place of incident was found to be within the jurisdiction of the Amar Colony police station, police said.

India: Ensure no safe havens anywhere for those who betray India: PM Modi to CVC, CBI

Kevadia, Oct 20 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday directed officials of the Central Vigilance Commission and the Central Bureau of Investigation to ensure there are no safe havens anywhere in the world for those who betray the country.

Virtually addressing a joint conference of the CVC and the CBI at Kevadia in Gujarat, Modi said no matter how powerful a person may be, stern action should be taken against those who work against the interest of the nation or its people.

India: Exports up 40.5 pc to USD 15.13 bn during Oct 1-14

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) The country's exports rose by 40.5 per cent to USD 15.13 billion during October 1-14 on account of healthy performance by key sectors such as petroleum products, engineering and chemicals, according to preliminary data of the commerce ministry.

Imports during the period grew by 60.72 per cent to USD 14.82 billion, the data showed.

India: Babul Supriyo to formally resign as BJP MP and join TMC

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) Former BJP leader Babul Supriyo will formally resign as MP on Tuesday, he said in a tweet, weeks after he quit the party to join the TMC.

In a tweet, the former union minister on Monday thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for granting him appointment to resign as Lok Sabha MP.
