Cuban PM participates in Eurasian Council meeting

HAVANA, Feb (NNN-ACN) — Cuban PM Manuel Marrero Cruz participates virtually in the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, held in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

On Twitter, the Cuban premier thanked for the invitation to participate in this meeting of the Council, a body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) composed of the Heads of Government of the member states.

Marrero Cruz also announced that the third session of the Cuba-Eurasian Economic Commission Joint Commission will soon be held in Havana.

Firefighters battle wildfire in eastern Cuba

HAVANA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Fire crews continued to battle a large-scale wildfire in Cuba's eastern province of Holguin, local media reported Saturday.

The blaze raged across the mountainous region of El Prado, some 800 km east of the capital Havana, burning over 1,000 hectares of forest, daily newspaper Granma reported.

No casualties or injuries have been reported, yet an emergency evacuation plan is underway in nearby mountainous rural communities.

The fire comes as a severe and prolonged drought continues to affect eastern Cuba.

US sanctions policy doomed to fail: Amirabdollahian

Havana, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that US policy of bullying other countries and imposing sanctions on them is doomed to fail.

Amirabdollahian made the comments early on Sunday in a meeting in Havana with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla

In their meeting, the two top diplomats discussed latest developments in bilateral relations between Iran and Cuba.

US reopening visa and consular services at embassy in Cuba

HAVANA (AP) — The United States Embassy in Cuba is reopening visa and consular services Wednesday, the first time it has done so since a spate of unexplained health incidents among diplomatic staff in 2017 slashed the American presence in Havana.

The Embassy confirmed this week it will begin processing immigrant visas, with a priority placed on permits to reunite Cubans with family in the U.S., and others like the diversity visa lottery.

Mexico to open regular flights to Cuba

HAVANA, Dec 16 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Executives of the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) and the Viva Aerobus airline from Tijuana (Mexico) on Thursday reported the opening of its first regular international flight to Havana, according to a statement.    

Located in Tijuana (Southern California), the terminal and Viva Airbus celebrated the growth of the low-cost airline at the airport with the opening of this new flight, marking the beginning of flight operations available through Jan 10.

China pledges $100 mn to Cuba, discusses new debt terms: minister

HAVANA, Nov 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — China has donated $100 million to Cuba to help it survive a crippling economic crisis exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, the island nation’s Deputy Prime Minister Alejandro Gil said.

The donation came as Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel concluded a visit to China, part of a rare foreign trip.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Diaz-Canel met on Friday and “the offer arose of a donation of around $100 million by China,” Gil told Cuban state television.

Cuba wins China debt relief, new funds

HAVANA, Nov 27 (Reuters) - China has agreed to restructure Cuban debt and provide new trade and investment credits to the beleaguered Caribbean Island nation after a meeting in Peking between the two Communist countries’ leaders.

Cuba Economy Minister Alejandro Gil said the latter had also donated $100 million to help the country cope with basic goods shortages and an energy crisis worsened by Hurricane Ian, which decimated western Pinar del Rio province in late September.

Cuba leader to visit Turkiye for talks

22 Nov 2022; MEMO: Cuban President, Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez, on Tuesday, will pay a three-day visit to Turkiye to have talks on bilateral relations between the countries, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will welcome Bermudez in the capital, Ankara, and the leaders will discuss the steps to enhance bilateral cooperation, Turkish Presidency said in a statement.

Santiago de Cuba readies for winter tourist season

SANTIAGO de CUBA, Nov 6 (NNN-ACN) — The tourist sector in this Eastern Cuban province readies for the winter season with refurbished hotels, certified personnel and the signing of accords with foreign companies.

Tourism official in the province Zoraida Lozano told the Cuban News Agency air connections from Spain to the territory as of Nov 11 is a major event favoring the tourist season.

Cuba: Over 60 countries to participate at Havana’ International Fair FIHAV 2022

HAVANA, Nov 1 (NNN-ACN) — More than 60 countries have confirmed their participation at the 38th Havana International Fair (FIHAV) 2022, to be held Nov 14-18 at the Expocuba Fairgrounds in Havana.

Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, minister of foreign trade and investment, informed at a press conference that official delegations, headed by ministers and other high-level government officials, will attend the trade fair, a sign that the world supports Cuba despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the US government.
