Cuba and China officially present joint television program

HAVANA, April 29 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Executives from China Media Group (CMG) and Cuban Television officially presented the television program ConTextos (ConTexts), dedicated entirely to information about China.    

At the Ambassadors’ Hall of the Habana Libre Hotel, the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Havana, Zhang Buxin, said that the program co-produced by China Global Television Network (CGTN in Spanish) and Cuba’s Caribe channel is a new milestone in cooperation between the two countries.

No Labor Day parade in Cuba due to fuel shortage

HAVANA, April 27 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Cuban authorities had to cancel the traditional May 1 Labor Day Revolution Square parade due to the shortage of fuel, it was announced Tuesday.

Smaller events will be staged instead in “communities, labor, and student centers for several days and parades in the country’s municipalities,” it was explained. The main event will take place in Havana’s Malecon.

This is the first time since the 1959 revolution that the May 1 parade is suspended for economic reasons. In 2020 and 2021 the celebration was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

China donates water resources equipment to drought-stricken Cuba

HAVANA, April 19 (NNN-XINHUA) — Cuba’s National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) on Tuesday welcomed a donation from the Chinese government to help the Caribbean island weather a severe drought.

China donated 449 pieces of equipment, including trucks, bulldozers, lighting towers, backhoe loaders, motor graders, and thermal diffusion welding machines.

Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman and Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Deborah Rivas witnessed the handover of the equipment at the INRH headquarters in Havana.

Fight against forest fires continues in eastern Cuba

HOLGUIN (Cuba), March 13 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The intense drought, which has affected this province in eastern Cuba for several months, is today one of the fundamental causes of the forest fires, which still do not give a truce to the territory.    

Although the one that began 20 days ago, in Pinares de Mayarí, is under control in some of its areas, at this moment, specialized forces are facing another two new ones in the towns of El Prado, some 100 kilometers from there, and in the vicinity of Guamuta, in the municipality of Cueto.

Over 2,000 migrants deported to Cuba in 2023

HAVANA, March 11 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — A total of 2,724 migrants have been deported to Cuba so far this year, in 44 operations from several regional countries, Cuba´s Interior Ministry (MININT) reported.    

Such a figure was reached on Friday as 26 irregular migrants were handed over by the US Coast Guard at the Port of Orozco, in Bahía Honda municipality, in the western province of Artemisa.

These migrants had been previously involved in four other illegal boatlifts from Cuba and were later intercepted.

Cuba condemns US granting political asylum to Cuban plane hijacker

HAVANA, NARCH 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Cuba´s Foreign Ministry (MINREX) strongly condemned granted political asylum in the United States to Cuban citizen Ruben Martinez after hijacking an aircraft in October 2022.    

In a statement, MINREX said that Cuba´s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez on Monday called US Chargé d’Affaires Benjamin Ziff to formally convey Cuba´s demand.

Cuba hosts, after two years, Habano Festival

HAVANA, Feb 22 (NNN-ACN) — After two years, the Habano Festival has resumed in Cuba, an event that promotes the millenary culture and the art of harvesting, making and enjoying an authentic and unique product.

The event, which in its 23rd edition will be held between Feb 27 and March 3, praises the values of cigars and minimizes the economic contributions, sometimes much, sometimes less, but leaves a foreign exchange fund that is delivered to the Ministry of Public Health and is entirely destined to the program to fight cancer.

Authorities stress work of Cuban doctors in Türkiye

HAVANA, Feb 19 (NNN-ACN) — Cuban Premier Manuel Marrero stressed the work of Cuban doctors with the Henry Reeve medical brigade in Türkiye who are contributing to the recovery of the victims of Feb 6 earthquake.

They are our heroes in white gowns assisting people in any place of the world, wrote the Premier on Twitter.

The Cuban Health Minister, Jose Angel Portal, also acknowledged the work of the Cuban doctors in Türkiye.

Cuba commends Iran's progress despite sanctions

05 Feb 2023; MEMO: Cuba's President, Miguel Diaz-Canel has praised Iran for its advancements in science and technology under the pressure of US-led sanctions during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Havana yesterday.

Diaz-Canel also expressed his country's willingness to strengthen bilateral ties with Tehran and noted that developments in Latin America and the world offer new opportunities to fortify multilateralism, Tasnim News Agency reported.
