Cuba and China sign agreement on cybersecurity

BEIJING, April 4 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Representatives of China and Cuba signed Monday an agreement on cybersecurity, which they said ratifies the will of their governments to work for an Internet targeted to the development and welfare of the people.    

The agreement was signed by the island’s Minister of Communications, Mayra Arevich, and Cao Shuming, Vice Minister of Cyberspace Administration of China, in the context of the working visit of a high-level delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister, Jorge Luis Perdomo.

China warns US House Speaker not to meet Taiwan president

BEIJING/TAIPEI, April 4 (Reuters) - China warned U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday not to "repeat disastrous past mistakes" by meeting Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, saying it would not help regional peace and stability, only unite the Chinese people against a common enemy.

The Republican McCarthy, the third-most-senior U.S. leader after the president and vice president, will host a meeting in California on Wednesday with Tsai, during a sensitive stopover in the United States that has prompted Chinese threats of retaliation.

China backs Putin's new foreign policy: Says ready to boost ties with Russia, India

Beijing, Apr 3 (PTI) China responded positively on Monday to Russia's new foreign policy concept, saying Beijing, Moscow and New Delhi are emerging "major powers" with "notable influence" and it was ready to boost ties with them and send a "positive signal" to the world in view of the complex changes. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the new Foreign Policy Concept Friday last, which said strengthening and deepening relations with China and India is a diplomatic priority for Russia.

'Don't help a villain', China urges Japan not to back US tech restriction as the two FMs hold talks

Beijing, Apr 2 (PTI) Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Sunday urged his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi not to "help a villain do evil" by backing the US tech restrictions against Beijing as the two ministers held rare talks here amid China's increasing criticism against Tokyo's backing for Washington-led Indo-Pacific strategy.

The United States "used bullying tactics to brutally suppress the Japanese semiconductor industry, and now it is repeating its old tricks against China", Qin told Hayashi.

HONG KONG, April 2 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand proved their dominance at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens here on Sunday, winning both men's and women's finals at the Hong Kong Stadium.

It marked the first time that the Hong Kong Sevens has been played twice on the same series calendar, with 28 teams competing at the Hong Kong Stadium, including 12 sides in women's sevens.

New Zealand men's team finished first with three consecutive wins in the group stage and entered the final after eliminating Argentina and France, setting up a clash against 19-time champion Fiji.

China: In Beijing, Spanish PM urges Xi to speak with Ukraine's Zelenskiy

BEIJING, March 31 (Reuters) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez encouraged Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to talk to the Ukrainian leadership and learn first-hand about Kyiv's peace formula to help bring an end to Russia's invasion.

Sanchez told a news conference in Beijing he had informed Xi, who visited Moscow on March 20-21, that Spain supported the proposals made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. They include a demand to restore Ukraine's territory to the status quo before Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea.

Elon Musk plans China visit, seeks meeting with premier

SHANGHAI/HONG KONG, March 31 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Elon Musk is making plans to visit China as early as April and is seeking a meeting with China's Premier Li Qiang, two people with knowledge of planning for the trip told Reuters.

The exact timing of the visit is subject to Li Qiang's availability, one of the sources said.

Tesla and China's State Council Information Office did not immediately reply to requests for comment on Friday.

China: Asian stocks follow Wall St up ahead of US inflation update

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stocks followed Wall Street higher Friday ahead of a United States inflation update traders hope might prompt the Federal Reserve to ease plans for more interest rate hikes.

Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney advanced. Oil prices declined.

Wall Street rose Thursday as worries about the global financial system eased following the collapse of two U.S. banks and one in Switzerland.
