China and U.S. see need to stabilise relations

BEIJING, May 8 (Reuters) - China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Monday it is imperative to stabilise Sino-U.S. relations after a series of "erroneous words and deeds" threw ties back into a deep freeze.

Qin, in a meeting in Beijing with U.S. ambassador Nicholas Burns, stressed in particular that Washington must correct its handling of the Taiwan issue and stop the hollowing out of the "one China" principle, according to China's foreign ministry.

China-Afghanistan-Pakistan meeting injects stability into region

BEIJING, May 7 (APP): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang hailed the successful holding of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue on Saturday, signaling the resumption of trilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Chinese experts view it as of great significance to inject stability into the region and help increase mutual trust between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which have encountered border disputes over the past few years.

BEIJING, May 4. /TASS/: NATO advancing to the Asia-Pacific region will undoubtedly worsen stability there, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Thursday.

"NATO’s continued eastward expansion to the Asia-Pacific region and the alliance’s interference in regional affairs will inevitably undermine peace and stability," she said replying to a request by TASS to comment on NATO’s plans to open an office in Japan.

The diplomat emphasized that Asia "should not become an arena of geopolitical rivalry."

China urges 'high vigilance' over NATO expansion in Asia

BEIJING, May 4 (Reuters) - China said on Thursday "high vigilance" was needed in the face of NATO's "eastward expansion" following a media report the alliance is planning to set up an office in Japan to facilitate consultations with allies in the region.

NATO is planning to open its first liaison office in Asia, in Japan, to facilitate talks with security partners such as South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, with geopolitical challenges from China and Russia in mind, the Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday, citing Japanese and NATO officials.

China district police build surveillance system targeting foreign journalists, Uyghurs

03 May 2023; MEMO: Police in China's Shanghai province are building a huge surveillance system which is able to alert and notify authorities when foreign journalists travel to Xinjiang province and when Uyghurs venture outside that area.

China: Pak Consul General visits Pakistani stalls in Canton Fair, Guangzhou

BEIJING, May 2 (APP): Acting Consul General of Pakistan in Guangzhou Sardar Muhammad has visited stalls set up by Pakistani companies to showcase their products at the 133rd China Import and Export Fair also known as Canton Fair in Guangzhou, Guangdong province of China.

The Pakistani companies have set up eight stalls in Phase 3 of the fair which started on Monday and will last till May 5, according to the Pakistan Embassy, Beijing.

China’s foreign minister makes rare visit to Myanmar border

BEIJING (AP) — China’s foreign minister called for stability and a crackdown on cross-border criminal activity along the country’s border with Myanmar, during an unusual visit to the volatile region on Tuesday.

The 2,129-kilometer (1,323-mile) border runs through densely forested mountains and has long been notorious for drug smuggling into China from the “Golden Triangle” region where the borders of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet.
