EU's Borrell to present options for solving disputes in East Med

BERLIN/BRUSSELS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Josep Borrell, the high representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign affairs and security policy, said on Wednesday he would present a wide set of options for solving the disputes in the Eastern Mediterranean over natural gas deposits.

Attending a video press conference following an informal meeting of the EU defense ministers of in Berlin, Borrell said, "as there is still work in progress," the purpose is not to consider which kind of sanctions would be presented against Turkey.

EU Welcomes Cease-Fire In Libya

BRUSSELS, Aug 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The European Union (EU) welcomed the cease-fire announcements made by the UN-backed Prime Minister of Libya, Fayez Serraj and Speaker of the eastern-based parliament, Aguila Saleh.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said, the mutual gesture is a “constructive first step forward” that shows the determination of the Libyan leaders to overcome the stalemate and creates hope for ending the longstanding conflict.

EU to work with remaining parties to save Iran nuclear deal: Borrell

BRUSSELS, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has affirmed that the bloc will work to preserve the Iran nuclear deal after the United States sought to reimpose sanctions on Iran.

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday, the EU's external action service (EEAS) said in a press release on Friday.

EU, Britain trade blame after scant progress towards post-Brexit deal

BRUSSELS/LONDON (Reuters) - Britain and the European Union made scant progress towards a deal on future ties in talks this week, and their chief negotiators blamed each other for the stalemate as time ticks down to an end-of-year deadline.

“Those who were hoping for negotiations to move swiftly forward this week will have been disappointed,” the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, told a news conference after two full days of talks in Brussels.

EU, CureVac in advanced talks for 225 million COVID-19 vaccine doses

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission and German biotech firm CureVac said on Thursday they had concluded a first round of talks for the supply of at least 225 million doses of a potential COVID-19 vaccine to EU states.

The European Union’s executive arm is also in talks with Johnson & Johnson and Sanofi for their vaccines under development, and agreed last week an advanced purchase deal with AstraZeneca for at least 300 million doses of the shot it is developing with Oxford University.

EU urges Turkey to end renewed drilling in East Med

BRUSSELS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on Sunday urged Turkey to immediately end renewed drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"I call on the Turkish authorities to end these activities immediately and to engage fully and in good faith in a broad dialogue with the European Union," he said in a statement.

EU moves to impose individual sanctions against Belarus

EU reaches first deal to buy potential COVID-19 vaccine

BRUSSELS, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) reached on Friday its first agreement to purchase a potential vaccine against COVID-19 once it is proven to be safe and effective, the European Commission said in a press release.

The deal, made with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, would secure the purchase of at least 300 million doses on behalf of the EU member states. The products could also be donated to lower and middle income countries or redirected to other European countries, said the press release.

EU should introduce new sanctions against Belarus, head of European Commission says

BRUSSELS, August 14. /TASS/: The European Union should introduce sanctions against those who "violated democratic values" in Belarus, President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen stated on Friday.

"We need additional sanctions against those who violated democratic values or abused human rights in Belarus," she wrote on her Twitter page.
