Cambodia, Brunei Vowed To Reinforce Ties, Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Nov 15 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia and Brunei, yesterday, vowed to reinforce their bilateral relations and cooperation for mutual benefits, according to a joint statement.

The statement was issued at the end of a one-day state visit of Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to Cambodia, as the two countries marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

During the visit, the sultan had a meeting with Cambodian King, Norodom Sihamoni, and also met with Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the statement said.

APEC Economic Leaders’ Week kicks off in Thailand

BANGKOK, November 14. /TASS/. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum Week opens in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Monday.

From November 14 and through November 19, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is to host meetings of senior APEC officials, ministerial meetings, plenary sessions, exhibitions and a number of other events related to the forum. Malaysia: One of The Oldest Quran In The World To Be Exhibited In Paris

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (NNN-Bernama) — One of the oldest Quran manuscripts in the world — the Quran of Kattalangar — will be on display in an exhibition dedicated to Uzbekistan that will open in Paris later this month.

Two pages of the centuries-old manuscript will be shown in the exhibition, “Treasures of the Oases of Uzbekistan. At the Crossroads of Caravan Routes”, which will be held at the Louvre from November 23 to March 6, 2023.

S.Korea Reported 54,519 New COVID-19 Cases

SEOUL, Nov 11 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea recorded 54,519 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight, compared to 24 hours ago, taking the total number of infections to 26,091,539, the health authorities said today.

The daily caseload was down from 55,365 in the previous day, but it was higher than 43,449 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).

For the past week, the daily average number of new cases was 47,268.

Among the newly reported infections, 49 were imported cases, lifting the total to 70,320.

South Korea: Seoul court approves extradition of New Zealand suspect

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean court has approved the extradition of a 42-year-old woman facing murder charges in New Zealand over her possible connection to the bodies of two long-dead children found abandoned in suitcases in August.

The Seoul High Court said Friday its decision came after the unidentified woman agreed in writing to be sent back to New Zealand. The court had previously planned to review her case on Monday to determine whether she should be extradited and now says that session is no longer necessary.

Japan minister quits over execution remark, PM delays trip

TOKYO (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida delayed his departure Friday to Southeast Asia’s three upcoming summits in order to sack and find a replacement for his justice minister over a remark he made about capital punishment that was criticized as inappropriate.

Justice Minister Yasuhiro Hanashi told reporters he submitted his resignation Friday to Kishida, two days after he made a comment at a party meeting that his low-profile job makes lunchtime news only when he uses his “hanko” stamp to approve executions in the morning.

China reports 10,000 new virus cases, capital closes parks

BEIJING (AP) — Beijing closed city parks and imposed other restrictions as the country faces a new wave of COVID-19 cases, even as millions of people remained under lockdown Friday in the west and south of China.

The country reported 10,729 new cases on Friday, almost all of them testing positive while showing no symptoms. More than 5 million people were under lockdown Friday in the southern manufacturing hub Guangzhou and the western megacity Chongqing.
