Argentine house fire leaves 7 people dead

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 6 (NNN-Xinhua) — Seven people, including four minors, died in a house fire on Tuesday in the Argentine city of Bahia Blanca, some 635 km south of Buenos Aires, police said.

The fire started in the front part of the house, located in the Villa Ressia neighborhood of the major port city.

“The victims sought refuge in a back room, but could not get out because the window had a grille on it,” a local newspaper reported.

“We responded to a 911 call about a fire,” the head of the Bahia Blanca Police Department Gonzalo Bezos said.

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 2 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina’s Interior Minister Wado De Pedro, announced that effective Nov 1 airlines interested in operating in the country will be able to do so with no coronavirus restrictions in place.

On the same day land borders with neighboring countries were being opened and with the cruise season scheduled to commence shortly, the administration of President Alberto Fernández confirmed there would be no restrictions on flights arriving into the country after that same date.

Argentine meat sales to China to resume next week; the rest of the world will have to wait until 2022

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 30 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina will resume meat exports to China as of this coming Monday, it was announced in Buenos Aires.

The decision by the Argentine government following negotiations with producers to lift all restrictions on sales of meat to foreign customers aims at recovering some of the political support lost at Sept 12’s Mandatory, Open and Simultaneous Primary (PASO) elections.

Climate, Environmental Action Priority For Argentina, Says President

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 10 (NNN-TELAM) – Argentine President, Alberto Fernandez, said that, climate and environmental action is a priority for the South American country.

“We need environmental social justice, which is the new name for development in our region,” Fernandez said, at the opening of the High-Level Dialogue on Climate Action in the Americas, held in Buenos Aires.

The event, hosted by Argentina, was attended by regional leaders and international organisation officials, among other leaders and special guests.

Covid-19: Case Zero of Delta variant dies in Argentine province of Cordoba

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 23 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — A 62-year-old Bolivian citizen residing in the Argentine city of Córdoba who gained notoriety as the Delta variant “Case Zero,” has died Sunday morning after being hospitalized for three weeks.

The cause of death was stated as “respiratory failure caused by severe bilateral pneumonia” according to hospital documents.

The man had failed to observe the mandatory isolation after arriving into the country on July 29, thus spreading the Delta variant of the coronavirus among his friends and near ones.

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 14 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina officially invited the Portuguese president and Prime Minister to visit the country as part of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the recognition by Lisbon of Argentina’s independence.

Foreign minister Felipe Solá met with Portuguese ambassador Jose Frederico Viola de Drummond Ludovice, and following talks extended president Alberto Fernandez’ invitation for the heads of state and government of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Antonio Costa to visit Argentina.

Covid-19: Argentina starts distributing Sputnik V vaccines produced locally

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 13 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Distribution of the Russian developed Sputnik V vaccine manufactured in Argentina started Thursday with the first batch of 1.14 million doses, it was reported.

The lot includes 995,125 doses of component 1 and 152,500 doses of component 2 produced locally with ingredients supplied by the Gamaleya Institute of Russia.

Covid-19: Argentina partially reopens as it approaches 5 million cases

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Argentina will relax coronavirus restrictions as infection and mortality rates falls, the government announced, even as the South American nation approached 5 million cases with more than 107,000 deaths.

The government said its plan includes an increase in the number of people who can meet in person, re-opening of schools and an increase in the number of people allowed to enter the country to 1,700 per day from the current 1,000. Argentina has a total population of about 45 million.
