United Nations, Jun 11 (PTI) Afghanistan's Taliban-appointed Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani is reportedly seeking to take under his control the most promising economic projects, primarily the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, a UN report has said.

Five Arrested Over Child’s Kidnapping, Murder In E. Afghanistan

CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, Jun 7 (NNN-ANA) – Afghan police have arrested five people, including a woman, over the abduction and murder of a child, in Afghanistan’s eastern Parwan province, said a statement by the provincial police office today.

The child was abducted several days ago, and his body was found in Police District 1 of Charikar city, this morning, the statement said.

Similarly, police in the northern Takhar province arrested three kidnappers, and rescued a child from the kidnappers, last week.

European Union urges probe into ‘horrible and heinous’ poisoning of Afghan schoolgirls

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The European Union called on Afghan authorities Tuesday to investigate the poisoning of primary schoolgirls in the country’s north after 77 students were hospitalized.

Two separate attacks took place in Sar-e-Pul province on Saturday and Sunday, local authorities said.

Kabul wants positive relations with world community: Afghan acting PM

KABUL, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan acting Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir has stressed having positive relations based on mutual respect with the world community, a local television channel the Tolonews reported.

"The Islamic Emirate wants positive relations and mutual respect with all nations in the region and around the world in light of Islamic Sharia (Islamic laws)," Tolonews quoted the acting premier as saying.

Kabir, according to the leading private media outlet, made the remarks in a meeting of the establishment's leaders and tribal elders held recently.

Afghan Caretaker Gov’t Leader Picked New Acting Prime Minister

KABUL, May 18 (NNN-ANA) – The Afghan caretaker government’s supreme leader, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, appointed Deputy Prime Minister, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, as the Acting Prime Minister, chief government spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said.

“Since esteemed acting Prime Minister, Mullah Hassan Akhund is sick and needs treatment and rest in Kandahar for some time, esteemed Mawlawi Abdul Kabir has been appointed to take charge of the Premier Office affairs,” Mujahid said, on his Twitter account, yesterday.

Three Kidnappers Killed, Hostage Rescued In Kabul, Afghanistan

KABUL, May 17 (NNN-ANA) – Three kidnappers were killed, after personnel of General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) or the country’s counter-intelligence agency, busted a group of abductors in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, the agency said in a statement, today.

The GDI personnel rescued a hostage, who was abducted a month ago, from the kidnappers’ control, following an operation targeting the hideout of the kidnappers’ gang in Kabul, last night.

Afghan Forces Seized 77 Pistols In Eastern Province

GARDEZ, Afghanistan, May 15 (NNN-ANA) – The Afghan security forces have thwarted attempts to smuggle handguns and seized 77 pieces of pistols, in the eastern Paktia province, said a statement by the provincial Police office, yesterday.

The alleged smugglers were attempting to illegally move the weapons out of the province, but were intercepted by the police, during a routine check in Dand-e-Patan district, on Saturday night.

However, the smugglers managed to escape, the statement admitted, saying, efforts are underway to arrest and bring to justice the culprits.

Afghan Police Destroyed Drug Lab, Arrested Nine Drug Smugglers

FIROZ KOAH, Afghanistan, May 14 (NNN-ANA) – Afghan counter-narcotics police destroyed a drug processing lab and arrested nine suspects for alleged involvement in drug business, in four of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said, yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, units of counter-narcotic police launched an operation in Chaharsada district of Afghanistan’s western Ghor province on Friday, discovered and destroyed the drug lab, the ministry said in a statement.
