UAE: Crown prince formally proclaimed Kuwait’s emir

DUBAI, December 16. /TASS/: Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been proclaimed the new Emir of Kuwait, succeeding Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah who passed away on Saturday, Issa al-Kandari, deputy prime minister and minister of state for cabinet affairs, said in a statement on Kuwaiti television.

Lebanon Approves Historic Social Security Reforms

BEIRUT, Dec 16 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese parliament, yesterday, passed a law, to establish a comprehensive pension system for private sector workers, a step that was “delayed for three decades” and considered a “milestone” for the country.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO), said in a statement that, it offered technical support to relevant Lebanese parliamentary committees and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), to reach a consensus on the law, ensuring its alignment with the standards for social security.

Egypt: Al Jazeera says cameraman killed in Gaza by drone strike on school building

CAIRO, Dec 15 (Reuters) - A cameraman for Al Jazeera was killed by a drone strike on Friday while reporting on the earlier bombing of a school used as a shelter for displaced people in the southern Gaza Strip, the Arabic broadcaster said.

Cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa was unable to get to safety or medical treatment after being injured in the strike on the Farhana School in Khan Younis and died of his wounds before ambulances were allowed in the area, Al Jazeera said.

Israeli armed forces killed 3 hostages by mistake -spokesperson

JERUSALEM Dec 15 (Reuters) - The Israeli military mistakenly killed three hostages being held in Gaza by Hamas during an incident which is "under review", a military spokesperson said on Friday.

The military said the hostages were killed during combat with militants in Gaza and expressed its condolences to the families while saying there would be "full transparency" in the investigation into the incident.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Center unveiled in Tunis

TUNIS, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A Traditional Chinese Medicine Center was unveiled on Friday in the Tunisian capital Tunis.

A ceremony was held to mark the establishment of the center, which is located in Mongi Slim Hospital.

The event was attended by the Tunis governorate's Regional Health Director Tarek Ben Nasr, and a Chinese delegation headed by Gong Jianping, director of the Health Commission of China's Jiangxi Province.

Israel: Hamas claims rocket attack in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Rocket sirens sounded at sunset Friday in Jerusalem and several nearby cities, including Bet Shemesh.

Loud explosions echoed in the center of Jerusalem and Israel's Iron Dome air defense system intercepted the rocket, according to a Xinhua reporter stationed there.

Israeli media reported that the alarms sounded after a long-range rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The rocket attack was later claimed by Hamas's armed wing al-Qassam Brigades.

UAE: 2 attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels strike container ships in vital Red Sea corridor

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels slammed into a cargo ship Friday in the Red Sea near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, following another attack only hours earlier that struck a separate vessel, authorities said.

The missile attack on the MSC Palatium III and the earlier assault on the Al Jasrah escalate a maritime campaign by the Iranian-backed Houthis. The attacks also endanger ships traveling through a vital corridor for cargo and energy shipments for both Europe and Asia from the Suez Canal out to the Indian Ocean.

Palestine: Israeli military says it mistakenly killed 3 Israeli hostages in battle-torn part of Gaza

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli troops mistakenly shot three hostages to death Friday in a battle-torn neighborhood of Gaza City, and an Israeli strike killed a Palestinian journalist in the south of the besieged territory, underscoring the ferocity of Israel’s ongoing onslaught.

The deaths were announced as a U.S. envoy tried to persuade the Israelis to scale back their campaign sooner rather than later.

Hezbollah Fighter, Civilian Killed In Confrontations On Lebanon-Israel Border

BEIRUT, Dec 15 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese-Israeli confrontations continued yesterday, in the border area, killing a Hezbollah fighter and a civilian, Lebanese military sources said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that, a Hezbollah fighter and a Lebanese civilian were killed, and another civilian was injured in Israeli airstrikes on the southern villages.

The sources said, Israeli helicopters, drones, and warplanes carried out a series of raids on the outskirts of the villages in southeast Lebanon, destroying eight houses and damaging 21 others.
