India: ED books Sanjay Bhandari in fresh money laundering case

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has filed a money laundering case against absconding defence consultant Sanjay Bhandari to probe kickbacks worth USD 4.99 million allegedly received by him from South Korean major Samsung Engineering Co Ltd (SECL) in 2009, officials said on Monday.

India: Cong protests at Raj Bhawans against BJP toppling opposition state governments

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Congress on Monday staged protests outside Raj Bhawans across the country against what it called the BJP's attempts to topple state governments led by opposition parties.

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal alleged the BJP was using "money power and intimidation" in its bid to topple governments in states.

The protests came amidst a power tussle in Rajasthan where the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress dispensation in facing a crisis after a rebellion by the now sacked deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and 18 other MLAs.

Indian Govt bans 47 more Chinese apps: Source

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The government has banned 47 more Chinese apps, taking the total number of mobile applications banned for being prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and defence of the country, to 106, according to a source.

The source privy to the development said that the 47 additional Chinese apps that have been banned now were clones and variants of the apps which were blocked earlier.

India: Man arrested for raping 8-year-old girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl in North Delhi's Sadar Bazaar area, police said on Monday.

The accused, Sudama, resided in Nabi Karim area and worked as a cart puller in Sadar Bazaar, they said.

The incident took place on Friday night.

With a little money left on him, the 22-year-old spends his nights outside closed shops on Urdu Bazar Road near the famous mosque.

The "StatEATistics report: The Quarantine Edition" from food delivery platform Swiggy found that Indians ordered biryani over "5.5 lakh times" from their favourite restaurants.

India: CRPF sub-inspector kills senior, self in Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) A Central Reserve Police Force sub-inspector allegedly shot dead his senior with his service weapon before killing himself at a bungalow allotted to the Home Ministry in Lodhi Estate area of Delhi, officials said Saturday.

They said an argument had broken out between Sub-Inspector Karnail Singh (55) and Inspector Dashrath Singh (56), both from the 122nd CRPF battalion. The SI first shot dead his senior in their room and later killed himself near the main gate around 10:30 pm on Friday.

India: Anti-CAA activist: Sharjeel Imam charged with sedition

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Saturday charged former JNU student Sharjeel Imam with sedition before a court here for allegedly inciting people to indulge in activities detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

The police made the allegations in its charge sheet filed before the court in a case related to anti-CAA riots earlier this year.

Delhi riots: Court grants bail to accused

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) A Delhi court Thursday granted bail to an accused in a case related to communal violence in north east Delhi in February, saying that the police failed to give any satisfactory reply to what evidence has been found against him.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav granted the relief to Vinod Kumar on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 20,000 with one surety of like amount.

India: Vistara receives its first Airbus A321neo aircraft

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Vistara said on Friday it had received its first A321neo aircraft, which has 188 seats in three-class cabin configuration, from Airbus' Hamburg production facility.

The A321neo is a narrow-body aircraft that can be used on short to medium-haul international routes that are within seven hours of flying time.
