20 Dead, Over 25 Injured From Bus Mishap In Central India

NEW DELHI, May 9 (NNN-PTI) – 20 people died and more than 25 others were injured, when a private bus fell off from a bridge, in India’s central state of Madhya Pradesh, today, a local lawmaker said.

The incident occurred in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. The passenger bus, which was moving from Khargone towards the state’s Indore city, fell off from an estimated height of 50 feet onto the dry riverbed.

Sri Lanka issues red warning over strong winds, rough seas

COLOMBO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology on Tuesday issued a red warning for fishing boats over strong winds and rough seas in the southeast Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea.

The rough seas are caused by the depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal and will gradually develop into a cyclonic storm on Wednesday, the Department of Meteorology said.

Due to this, the wind speeds in the above-mentioned sea areas will be between 50 and 60 kmph, the department said.

Israeli foreign minister Cohen to cut short India visit after receiving 'security update' from Tel Aviv

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Tuesday said he would cut short his three-day visit to India in view of a "security update" he received on his arrival here regarding Tel Aviv's operation against a militant group in Gaza Strip.

The visiting Israeli minister, who held wide-ranging talks with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar focusing on the expansion of bilateral ties in various key areas including trade, investment, defence and agriculture, said he will return home after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Party officials: Imran Khan arrested in court in Islamabad: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani security agents arrested former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday as he appeared in a court in the capital, Islamabad, to face charges in multiple graft cases, officials from his party said.

Khan was dragged outside and pushed into a police vehicle by agents from the country’s anti-corruption body, the National Accountability Bureau, according to Fawad Chaudhry, a senior official with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.

Chaudhry denounced the arrest as “an abduction.”

Indian Rupee falls 27 paise to close at 82.05 against US dollar

Mumbai, May 9 (PTI) The rupee fell 27 paise to close at 82.05 (provisional) against the US currency on Tuesday, weighed down by a strong greenback against major rivals overseas and a muted trend in domestic equities.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.84 against the dollar and slipped below the 82 levels to close at 82.05 (provisional), down 27 paise from its previous close.

During the day, the rupee witnessed a high of 81.83 and a low of 82.15 against the greenback.

Pakistan: Imran Khan arrested from outside Islamabad High Court, says his party

Islamabad, May 9 (PTI) Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan was on Tuesday arrested by paramilitary Rangers while he was present at the Islamabad High Court for the hearing of a corruption case, his party said.

The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who travelled from Lahore to the federal capital Islamabad, was taken into custody by the Rangers when he appeared in court on anti-graft charges, his PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said.
