India: PM Modi's 100 cr (1 billion) vaccination doses claim 'false': Sanjay Raut

Mumbai, Oct 24 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has alleged that the claim of administration of 100 crore vaccine doses against COVID-19 in the country was "false" and not more than 23 crore (230 million) doses were given to eligible citizens so far.

Addressing a party meeting at Nashik in Maharashtra on Saturday, Raut said he would give proof that the 100 crore vaccination claim was "false".

"How much will you lie?" the Rajya Sabha member asked, without taking any names.

India: Though sunny weather lingers, winter is not far behind

Kanpur: Sunny weather has been reported. It goes so as Sunday has no chance of showers in and around the city. If we take into view the cloud cover it is 13% as was predicted by the weather department. Yet the air quality is not good.

India: Mehbooba slams CDS Rawat's remarks on curbs in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 24 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday charged that repression was the Centre's only method to deal with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to the remarks by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat warning of further curbs in Kashmir to tackle the recent violence, Mehbooba also said his statement contradicts the official narrative that all is well in the valley.

India: Man arrested for raping minor in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 24 (PTI) A 20-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a minor girl in central Delhi's Ranjeet Nagar area, police said.

The accused has been identified as Suraj, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, they said.

He was arrested from Kalanaur, Rohtak district, Haryana. He was previously arrested under the POCSO Act for allegedly harassing a minor under Khyala police station limits, police said.

India: Nuisance to public: Police raids pub in city

Mangaluru, Oct 24 (PTI): A pub here was raided by the City Crime Branch police on Saturday night following complaints from the public about the nuisance caused by loud music.

Police sources said the people in the neighbourhood complained that a few customers of the pub were behaving in an indecent manner with students walking on the streets.

It was alleged that the pub was open beyond the stipulated hours.

India: IIT-K honours ten worthy students with scholarships

Kanpur: IIT-Kanpur has formed the Bright Minds Scholarships programme for at least 10 students within the top 100 all India rankings of JEE Advanced 2021.

The scholarships will be awarded to 10 students whose parents gross yearly income is less than Rs 20 lakh, as has been reported.

They will study at the IIT Kanpur from the 2021-22 academic session onwards.

'The scholarships are being established with support from the institute's alumnus Lokvir Kapoor.

India: First patient of Zika virus found in Kanpur

For it, a team of experts from Delhi has reached here and samples of those who came in contact with the one patient have been sent for thorough examination.

Official sources asserted that the patient is an Air Force Station personnel. He is admitted to an Air Force Hospital.

India reports 16,326 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 34,159,562

NEW DELHI, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 34,159,562 on Saturday as 16,326 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, as many as 666 deaths due to the pandemic since Friday morning took the total death toll to 453,708.

Most deaths were reported from the southern state of Kerala. "More than 70 percent cases (deaths) were due to comorbidities," according to the data released by the federal health ministry.

Thousands of Islamists continue marching to Pakistan capital

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Thousands of supporters of a banned radical Islamist party Saturday departed the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore, clashing for a second straight day with police who lobbed tear gas into the crowd, a party spokesman and witnesses said.

The group began their journey Friday with the goal of reaching the capital Islamabad to pressure the government to release Saad Rizvi, the head of the Tehreek-e-Labiak Pakistan party. Rizvi was arrested last year amid demonstrations against France over the publication of caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
