Putin upbeat about efforts to develop new Russian regions

ST. PETERSBURG, May 2. /TASS/: Everything is in place to foster the socio-economic development of the new regions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

Addressing a ceremony in Mariupol in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) by video link, the head of state wanted some hard details about the program, "so that people could see the potential."

"I have no doubt that through joint efforts the outlined tasks will definitely be accomplished. We have all the resources, experience and expertise for that," Putin assured.

Russia records 3,404 daily COVID cases, 30 deaths — crisis center

MOSCOW, May 2. /TASS/: Russia’s COVID-19 case tally rose by 3,404 over the past day to 22,858,855, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Tuesday.

A day earlier, 4,242 daily cases were recorded.

As many as 328 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Russia over the past day, down 9.9% from a day earlier. The number of hospitalized patients increased in 22 regions, while in 35 regions the figure decreased. The situation remained unchanged in 28 regions. A day earlier, 364 people were rushed to hospitals.

Russia registers 4,242 coronavirus cases in 24 hours, 31 related deaths

MOSCOW, May 1. /TASS/: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia grew by 4,242 in the past 24 hours, whereas the number of coronavirus-related deaths rose by 31, the federal anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Monday.

On the previous day 5,341 coronavirus cases and 34 related deaths were registered in the country, while figures since the beginning of the pandemic reached 22,855,451 and 398,336, respectively. The number of recoveries increased by 4,681 in 24 hours compared with 5,725 on the previous day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 22,254,575.

Putin to discuss tourism sector development with cabinet members on Tuesday — Kremlin

MOSCOW, May 1. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with members of the government in a videoconference format on Tuesday, the press service of the Kremlin reported on Monday.

"The issues of development of the tourism sector will be the main subject. Reports will be delivered by Deputy Prime Minister D.N. Chernyshenko, Economic Development Minister M.G. Reshetnikov, Transport Minister V.G. Savelyev, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment A.A. Kozlov," the report said.

Homes smashed, 34 wounded in latest Russian strikes on Ukraine

May 1 (Reuters) - Russia unleashed a fresh volley of missiles on Ukraine overnight, causing huge blazes in a city in the east, damaging dozens of homes and wounding at least 34 people.

The attack on Pavlohrad, a city and railway hub, came during the second wave of nationwide missile strikes in three days, with Moscow apparently reviving its winter tactic of long-range strikes ahead of a planned Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Russia claims control of 4 more urban quarters in Ukraine’s Bakhmut

30 Apr 2023; MEMO: Moscow on Sunday claimed that its forces took control of four more urban quarters in the frontline Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

The Russian Defense Ministry said units of the Airborne Forces pinned down Ukrainian forces in the northern and southern outskirts of the city.

Ukraine did not immediately respond to the claims.

Russia warns tough response over seizure of embassy school in Poland

30 Apr 2023; MEMO: Russia on Sunday promised a harsh response to the seizure of its embassy school in Warsaw, Poland by local authorities.

Warsaw will get a response and work in this regard has begun, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Russian TV channel Rossiya-1.

Zakharova said the school is moving to a new building, and the process that could take several days.

Russia: Putin approves punishment stripping of citizenship for those threaten national security

30 Apr 2023; AA: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday approved a law introducing the punishment of stripping away citizenship for certain crimes, including posing a national security threat and sabotage.

Under the law, which will come into force in 180 days, only naturalized Russians can have their citizenship stripped, not Russians by birth.

Russia to respond harshly to embassy school seizure in Poland — diplomat

Russia April 30. /TASS/: Moscow will give a very harsh response to the seizure of the Russian embassy’s school in Poland, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday.

When asked if Russia’s response to Poland’s actions would be harsh, Zakharova said in a program on Rossiya-1 TV channel: "Very [harsh]." "The official Warsaw will receive retaliatory steps, as you understand, they will be taken and worked out by agencies. This work has been launched, this is their choice, we will respond."
