Italy allows malaria and HIV drugs for coronavirus treatment

ROME, March 27. /TASS/: Italy’s National Healthcare Service must provide coronavirus patients with free malaria and HIV/AIDS drugs, ANSA news agency reported Friday, citing Gazzetta Ufficiale newspaper.

The report explains that anti-malaria chloroquine-and hydroxychloroquine-based drugs, as well as anti-HIV drugs now allowed for prescription by the therapists and must be provided at the expense of the national healthcare system.

Earlier reports indicated that Italian medics began administering anti-inflammation arthritis and rheumatism drugs as experimental therapy.

Italy’s corona deaths pass 7,500 amid fears of spread to south

ROME, March 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — More than 680 people have died from coronavirus in Italy in the last 24 hours, the Civil Protection Agency said, as concerns grew that the disease was spreading more towards the south of the country.

The death toll increased by 683 on Wednesday. That was lower than a spike of 743 on Tuesday but more than the totals of the previous two days and the third highest daily tally since the outbreak emerged in northern regions on Feb 21.

Italy registers 69,176 coronavirus cases

ROME, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 6,820 lives in locked down Italy as of Tuesday with the cumulative total number reaching 69,176, according to new data released by the Civil Protection Department.

Speaking at a televised press conference, Civil Protection Department Chief Angelo Borrelli said Italy reported 5,249 new cases of coronavirus and 743 new deaths on Tuesday and that 54,030 people are currently positive for the coronavirus, one month after the pandemic broke out in northern Italy on Feb. 21.

Three more Russian planes arrive in Italy to help fight COVID-19

PRATICA DI MARE /Italy/, March 24. /TASS/: Three more Il-76 planes of the Russian Aerospace Forces, carrying Russian military specialists and equipment who will help to tackle the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country, landed Italy’s Pratica di Mare airbase some 30 km southwest of Rome.

The planes are the 12th, 13th and 14th sent by Russia overall. The eleventh Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane arrived in Italy late on Monday.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the planes brought equipment necessary for diagnostics and disinfection.

Italian coronavirus cases likely "10 times higher than reported"

ROME (Reuters) - The number of cases of coronavirus in Italy is probably 10 times higher than the official tally of almost 64,000, the head of the agency that is collating the data said on Tuesday.

Latest figures show 6,077 people have died from the infection in barely a month, making Italy the worst-affected country in the world, with close to double the number of fatalities in China, where the virus emerged last year.

However, testing for the disease has often been limited to people seeking hospital care, meaning that thousands of cases have certainly gone undetected.

Italy Bans All Domestic Travel As Virus Claims More Lives

ROME, Mar 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Italy’s interior and health ministries, issued a joint ordinance, banning all domestic travel, as the virus epidemic continues to advance in the country.

“Beginning today, throughout the national territory, it is forbidden for individuals to travel, whether by public or private transportation, to a municipality that is different from the one in which they find themselves in,” said the ordinance.

Italy: Corona cases In Italy Reach 53,578, Death Toll At 4,825

ROME, Mar 22 (NNN-XINHUA) – Italy reported 6,557 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, raising the total to 53,578, since the pandemic first broke out in its north on Feb 21, according to the latest data, provided by the Civil Protection Department, managing the COVID-19 emergency.

A further 793 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 4,825. The number of active virus infections increased to 42,681, not counting recoveries and fatalities.

ROME, March 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Italy on Wednesday reported nearly 500 new deaths from the novel coronavirus, the highest one-day official toll of any nation, as US Pres Donald Trump ordered sweeping new action against the pandemic and declared himself a war president.

With the number of global coronavirus infections shooting past 200,000, governments announced new containment measures and the US Congress approved a $100 billion emergency relief package.
