Israeli occupation forces detains PA police officer

The Israeli occupation forces have detained a Palestinian Authority police officer over an alleged plan to assassinate an illegal settler leader in the occupied West Bank, local media have reported.

The police officer was named as Alaa Khaled Qatto. He was detained during an overnight incursion by the Israeli occupation forces in the Palestine refugee camp in Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank.

EU countries try to thrash out refugee burden-sharing

LUXEMBOURG, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — EU interior ministers meeting Thursday will seek agreement on a long-stalled revision of the bloc’s asylum and migration rules that is aimed at making burden-sharing fairer.

But diplomats cautioned the odds of a deal were still “50-50”, with increasing numbers of European Union members adopting hardline policies on the issue.
 
The proposal on the table at the meeting in Luxembourg calls for compulsory solidarity among EU countries, but with an option of showing that in one of two ways.

Israel to approve law requiring new settlers to wait a year before receiving passport

07 June 2023; MEMO: Israel's government will approve a law that requires new immigrants to settle in Israel for a year before being granted a passport, reported the Times of Israel.

The goal of the legislation is to reduce the number of those who qualify for citizenship under the country's Law of Return, but do not intend to settle in Israel long term.

India: Flight begins with new airport Terminal in Kanpur

Kanpur: The first flight began with as many as 140 passengers from the newly built terminal here.

The airport's new terminal building opened for routine flight operations on Wednesday.

A passenger flight from Bengaluru was the first one to operate from the new terminal building.

The flight was given a ceremonious water salute on its landing at the Kanpur Airport.

The passengers were greeted with Jai Ho slogans on their arrival at the terminal building.

The flight took off reportedly for Bengaluru with approximately 140 people

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday called off a vote on a contempt of Congress charge against FBI Director Christopher Wray, accepting a last-minute offer by the bureau to allow the full committee access to a confidential document of an unverified tip about President Joe Biden.

Rep. James Comer said in a statement that the committee is removing a contempt resolution against Wray from Thursday’s schedule after receiving an accommodation that would give the full committee access to the document.

Russia and Ukraine say ammonia pipeline was damaged, in potential blow to grain deal

June 7 (Reuters) - A pipeline used to transport ammonia fertilizer from Russia via Ukraine that may be central to the future of the Black Sea grain deal has been damaged, according to both Kyiv and Moscow, potentially complicating talks around the accord.

Russia's defence ministry said a "Ukrainian sabotage group" had blown up a section of the pipeline on Monday night near the village of Masyutivka in Kharkiv region. The village is on the frontline between Russian and Ukrainian troops.
