Pakistan, Rwandan FMs discuss cooperation for youth uplift

LONDON, Sep 12 (APP): Foreign Minister of Rwanda Dr Abdallah Utumatwishima on Tuesday met Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, on the sidelines of the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministerial Meeting.

In the meeting, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and exploration of new avenues for the uplift of youth.

The two leaders also agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in multiple spheres.

5 seek medical help after passenger plane's emergency landing in Russia

MOSCOW, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Five people have sought medical help after a Russian passenger plane made an emergency landing in the southern Novosibirsk region.

No casualties were reported following the incident.

"According to preliminary information, five people have sought medical assistance," said the ministry of health of the Novosibirsk region.

There were 159 passengers and 6 crew members onboard, including 23 children, according to TASS.

Four Israeli Officers Sentenced For Theft, Assaults Against Palestinians

JERUSALEM, Sept 12 (NNN-MA’AN) – An Israeli court sentenced yesterday, four border police officers to community service or imprisonment, after they were convicted of theft and assaults against Palestinian workers.

The Beersheba District Court in southern Israel, said in a statement that, the four officers confessed to committing armed robbery, severe assault, conspiracy to commit crimes, breach of trust, and destruction of evidence.

Putin projects economic calm after rouble slump, warns of inflation risks

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday praised the central bank for keeping a lid on inflation with double-digit interest rates and said there were no insurmountable challenges when it came to limiting the rouble's volatility.

Putin used his speech at Russia's Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok to project a mood of financial calm, just weeks after the rouble's slump past 100 to the dollar led to Kremlin criticism of the bank's monetary policy and, ultimately, a 350-basis-point emergency rate hike to 12%.

6.4-magnitude earthquake rocks northern Philippines

MANILA, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- An offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 rocked Cagayan province in the northern Philippines Tuesday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The institute said the quake, which occurred at 7:03 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 10 kilometers, about 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island in Calayan town.

The institute said the tectonic quake will trigger aftershocks but will not cause damage.

It said the quake was felt in many areas in the main Luzon island and the central Philippines.

The Taliban have waged a systematic assault on freedom in Afghanistan, says UN human rights chief

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Taliban have waged a systematic assault on the freedom of Afghanistan’s people, including women and girls experiencing “immeasurably cruel” oppression, the U.N.'s human rights chief said Tuesday.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said that human rights are in a state of collapse in Afghanistan more than two years after the Taliban returned to power and stripped back institutional protections at all levels. He urged U.N. member states to help fill the void.

UAE: Emirates Airlines to resume immediate flights to Nigeria

ABUJA, Sept 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Emirates Airlines will resume immediate flight schedules to Nigeria and lift a visa ban on Nigerian travelers.

This follows a meeting between the leaders of the two countries, the Nigerian presidency said on Monday.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on Monday in Abu Dhabi to lift the visa ban and agree on new investments into Africa’s largest economy.

USA: Heavy rain brings flash flooding in parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP) — Heavy rainfall has flooded parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with one city declaring a state of emergency as water poured into homes, created sinkholes and stranded drivers.

Mayor Dean Mazzarella in Leominster, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) northwest of Boston, urged people not to venture outside as roads flooded Monday night, but some residents were evacuated as water came into their basements. All schools were closed Tuesday and two shelters were set up.

Ecuador's president delivers armored vehicles to army to combat organized crime

QUITO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso on Monday presented the country's army with 20 Turkish-made Cobra II armored vehicles to help fight organized crime.

"Today I am pleased to deliver these 20 Turkish-made Cobra II vehicles," Lasso said during the handover ceremony in the capital Quito, adding that 15 more units will arrive in October.

"This fleet will serve to defend our sovereignty and our security," he said.

Turkish police arrest 17 suspects over failed coup

ISTANBUL, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police have detained 17 suspects in northwestern Türkiye over their alleged ties with a network believed to be behind a defeated coup in 2016, local media reported on Tuesday.

Gendarmerie command units rounded up the suspects when they tried to illegally flee to Greece from the border province of Edirne, according to the Ihlas news agency.
