Seven Killed, 59 Injured In Flash Floods, Storms In Iran

TEHRAN, Jun 10 (NNN-IRNA) – At least seven people were killed and 59 others injured, in storms and flash floods, in five Iranian provinces over the past two days, IRIB news agency reported, yesterday.

Among the four people killed in Isfahan were three by flooding, in Nohuj village in Ardestan County on Thursday, and a driver on an intercity road, whose car was washed away by the deluge, the semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Isfahan Disaster Mitigation and Management Organisation, as saying.

One person was killed by a landslide on a road from Tehran to Mazandaran Province, the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Mazandaran’s traffic police as saying.

Flooding also killed a child in East Azarbaijan Province, the deputy for rescue and relief operations of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, said.

Neither the Iranian media nor the National Medical Emergency Organisation provided any detail about the seventh fatality.

A total of 27 people in the capital, Tehran, were wounded by a strong gale that came on Thursday evening, IRIB quoted the National Medical Emergency Organisation as announcing.

In addition, flash floods and storms wounded 15 in the central province of Isfahan, 10 in the northern province of Alborz, five in the northern province of Mazandaran, and two in the north-western province of East Azarbaijan, the report said.
