DAMASCUS, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A landmine explosion killed six civilians in Syria's central Homs province on Saturday, the latest tragedy caused by the country's undetected landmines and unexploded ordnances, state news agency SANA reported.
The landmine ripped through a car transporting workers en route to collecting truffles in the al-Amour Mount area in the countryside of Al-Sukhnah town east of Homs, said SANA.
SANA noted that the landmine was from the leftovers of the Islamic State (IS) group, which is still active in the desert region and carries out occasional attacks, ambushing civilians and military personnel.
In February, 53 civilians were killed by IS militants while collecting truffles southeast of Al-Sukhnah, according to SANA.
On April 5, the UN said 3,353 civilians, including 889 children, had been killed by landmines in Syria since 2011.
