Israel: Protestors trying to drag Israel into civil war, says Likud MK

Benjamin Netanyahu

14 Mar 2023; MEMO: Likud MK Danny Danon described the demonstrators who are opposed to the judicial overhaul in Israel as "extremists" who are trying to drag Israel into a civil war, local newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

Danon added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah is the prime minister, not a bystander, and must deal with the issue and save the country from disaster.

He invited Netanyahu to declare the conflict of interest agreement he had signed null and void and to start immediately to work on finding a solution.

This comes after Saturday evening witnessed mass demonstrations across Israeli cities, the largest since the start of the protests ten weeks ago. The number of demonstrators was estimated at more than 300,000.

The protestors are calling on the government to back down from enacting laws that "marginalise the judiciary" and which have been described as a 'coup'.

Netanyahu on Sunday pledged to go ahead with his planned judicial overhaul, accusing the opposition of working to oust his government, Safa news agency reported.
