Ukraine: Kiev asks ICRC to begin organization of humanitarian corridors

International Committee of the Red Cross

KIEV, March 4. /TASS/: Ukraine calls on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to immediately take measures to organize humanitarian corridors for the civilian population, Ukraine’s Strana media outlet said on Friday, citing a statement of the Ukrainian presidential office.

According to the statement, Ukraine is ready to do everything necessary to evacuate civilians and organize humanitarian cargoes deliveries.

Humanitarian corridors are needed in settlements in the Sumy, Chernigov, Kharkov, Kiev, Nikolayev, Zaporozhye, Kherson, Lugansk, and Donetsk regions.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina said earlier that Kiev has referred all necessary requests for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to international organizations. The Ukrainian army guarantees safe passage through these corridors, she stressed.

The second round of talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations was held in Thursday. The sides agreed to open humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians, deliver medicines and food products to the areas of the fiercest fighting. The sides plan to organize special communications channels to organize corridors and elaborate logistics procedures.
