24 Nov 2021; MEMO: Apple yesterday said it had filed a lawsuit against Israel's NSO and its parent company OSY Technologies, in an effort to stop the spyware company from using any of its devices.
This comes after the US put the company on the trade blacklist after it was accused of supplying technology to foreign governments to maliciously target government officials, journalists, businesspeople, activists, academics and embassy workers.
The Israeli firm is involved in circumventing security for computer and telephone products and selling that software in the form of hacking tools to foreign governments.
In its complaint filed in US District Court for the Northern District of California, Apple said that NSO's tools were used in "concerted efforts in 2021 to target and attack Apple customers."
The company added that "US citizens have been surveilled by NSO's spyware on mobile devices that can and do cross international borders."
NSO has not yet to reply to enquiries related to the lawsuit or the surveillance claims made against it.
