India: Kanpur student designs solar AC cutting electricity costs

Kanpur: A second-year B.Tech student, from a private engineering college in Rooma here, has developed a new solar-powered air conditioner in a bid to give an eco-friendly alternative to the existing ACs.

Sharing his concept with the college teachers he got ample support from them. According to the student S Singh, this prototype will be suitable for use in e-rickshaw as it neither consume electricity nor engine oil.

The prototype model does not use a compressor. It is a cheaper option as it runs with the 12-volt battery rechargeable with the help of an 18-Watt solar panel.

The equipment fitted inside includes a fan, a digital thermometer along with the main gadgets of battery and solar panel. Besides, it offers an eight-hour backup when bound with a battery.

It thus eliminates the emission of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. It not only cuts the cost but also the toxicity mingling into the environment.
