Tunisia: Ennahda Movement rejects placing ex-minister under house arrest

08 Aug 2021; MEMO: In a statement published on Friday, the Ennahda Movement expressed its rejection of the illegal procedure of placing former Minister of Transportation and Logistics Anwar Maaroufi under house arrest.

The movement emphasised that it would resort to the Administrative Court to appeal the arbitrary decision, due to its disregard for all conventional legal steps.

The Ennahda Movement expressed its rejection of all decisions that are violations of rights and freedoms, including the right of movement and freedom of expression.

The movement also called on the President of the Republic Kais Saied to lift the exceptional measures that breach the constitution's provisions, the law and international covenants, while urging democratic and human rights forces to unite efforts to put an end to the systematic campaign affecting Tunisians.
