India: City's main blood banks face blood paucity

Kanpur: What disturbs is a paucity of blood in the city's three main blood banks. The blood group of B and O negative are no longer existing in these blood banks.

The three blood banks are at Ursula Hospital, IMA Charitable Blood Bank and GSVM College.

Pregnant women, Thalassaemia patients, Anaemia patients, Chronic Kidney Disease patients on dialysis are most impacted by the paucity.

The patients amid the Corona epidemic suffer badly. Scarcity has been said to be prevailing due to lockdown. Donation camps are not being organised. Social organisations are also not finding a chance to arrange blood camps.

Doctors are also indicating this situation as worrisome. They are insisting on undertaking serious efforts.

"We are regularly approaching different organisations for blood donations. Along with this, an appeal to donate blood is also rendered," said Prof Lubna Khan, incharge, Medical College Blood Bank.
