Airstrikes

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least six Taliban militants were killed and 14 others wounded when Afghan Air Force struck their positions in the country's northern Faryab province, a local army source confirmed on Monday.

"The strikes were conducted in surrounding areas of Qaysar and Shirin Tagab districts on Sunday. The precise strikes left six militants dead and wounded 14 others," Hanif Rezai, spokesman of army's Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region, told Xinhua.

Two militants' control and command centers along with some amount of weapons and ammunition were also destroyed, he said.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes in recent years as Taliban militants have attempted to seize more land and consolidate their position.

The militant group has not responded to the report so far.
