Vietnam Arrests Three Drug Traffickers, Seizes 20 Heroin Cakes

HANOI, Sept 29 (NNN-VNA) – Police and border guards of northern Vietnam’s Son La province, detained three local people for trafficking 20 cakes of heroin and 2,362 pills of synthetic drugs, local media reported today.

The authorities made the arrest on Sunday, after one of the suspects escaped into the jungle, local media reported, adding that, they bought the drugs in the border area, and attempted to resell them in other localities.

Further investigation is underway.

According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin, or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine, are punishable by death.

Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs, also faces the death penalty.
