India: Fazalganj Industrial Area Phase l reels under lack of civic amenities

Kanpur: Enter Fazalganj industrial area phase l and it will greet you with broken road, water-logging, piles of garbage, stuffed drains, overflowing sewer, etc. Rains have further aggravated the situation from bad to worse. Industrialists maintained that these anomalies have affected business worth about Rs 40 Crore.

Strangely enough the civic problems have been raised at the meeting of the Udyog Bandhu but officials concerned seem to have adopted a very indifferent attitude, as they often stress upon.

Drainage system is so bad as the water-logging problem remains a very common sight of this area. These days it is causing havoc. The factory owners are very much Anguished with this menace.  When the rains start the power supply is cut and if it does not disrupt, the factory owners fear to start the machines. The workers avoid to enter the premises. This problem is so acute that production remained close on the day before yesterday owing to the incessant rains which exposed the Nagar Nigam's aparhy.

Throwing light on the poor condition one industrialist ventured to say that the dirty water has entered the factories thereby making intense stench and entry has nearly restricted. Another angered industrialist said the sewer water flows inside the factory premises because there was existing no planned drainage system in the area.

Giving example of the water-logging problem he stated one could easily see the worse position near Mahadev Temple. The drains are fully covered with the silt here.

According to one estimate there were existing about 400 small and large units in Fazalganj Industrial Area Phase l,  where minimum production worth Rs 20 Cr takes place everyday. It gripples with the lack of civic amenities due to Nagar Nigam's carelessness though the Nagar Ayukt SK Sharma has assured them of disposing the water logging problem sooner.

Lamenting over the worse situation the wry industrialists demand nothing but basic infrastructure to maintain even pace of production. They pointed out that the record of the past 40 years has broken in water-logging of this area. What was urgently needed is well-planned drainage and  proper cleaning. The Municipal authorities accept that there was proposal to mend the sewer line under Amrit Yojna.
