DAMASCUS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian military on Wednesday thwarted rebel drone attacks in the rural areas of two northern provinces, said the Syrian defense ministry.
In a statement carried by the state news agency SANA, the ministry said the army intercepted more than ten drones launched by "terrorist groups" toward civilian zones and military locations in Aleppo and Idlib.
Over the past month, Syrian and Russian forces have intensified targeted offenses against rebel groups in northern Syria, in retaliation of the latter's drone attacks on government areas.
The deadliest one took place in early October when a drone attack killed over 80 military personnel and civilians during a graduation event at a military academy in the Homs province.
On Tuesday, the Syrian and Russian forces announced that they had killed more than 630 "terrorists" in Idlib within a month in retaliation to the drone attack on the Homs military academy.
