375% rise in Islamophobic attacks after UK PM compares Muslim women to letterboxes

2 Sep 2019; MEMO: Tell MAMA has said that there was a 375 per cent increase in Islamophobic attacks the week after Boris Johnson wrote a column in the Telegraph comparing Muslim women to letterboxes and bank robbers.

According to the monitoring group’s annual report, a week after the then foreign secretary, now prime minister’s column was published in August 2018, 38 anti-Muslim incidents occurred, 22 involving veiled women or women wearing the niqab.

British PM Warns Rebel Tories To Back Brexit Or Face “Chaos”

Labour's Jeremy Corbyn says he wants a UK election

SALFORD, England (Reuters) - Britain’s opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said on Monday he wanted an election and that his party would stop a no-deal Brexit.

“We must come together to stop no deal - this week could be our last chance,” Corbyn said in a speech in Salford, northern England. “Then we need a general election.

“In that election, Labour will give people the chance to take back control and have the final say in a public vote with credible options on both sides including the option to remain,” Corbyn said.

UN refugee chief urges India to ensure no one left stateless

BERLIN (AP) — The U.N.’s top refugee official urged India to ensure no one is left stateless by the exclusion of nearly 2 million people from a citizenship list in Assam state.

“Any process that could leave large numbers of people without a nationality would be an enormous blow to global efforts to eradicate statelessness,” Filippo Grandi, the U.N. high commissioner for refugees, said in a statement issued Sunday in Geneva.
