UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, slammed India for its inaction on rights violations report in Kashmir

In the opening remarks of her first address to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Bachelet criticised India on not addressing issues highlighted in the UN report on human rights violations in Kashmir, and said that the people of Kashmir had the same rights to justice and dignity as people all over the world.

U.S. to close PLO's office in Washington: report

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Trump administration planned to announce on Monday that it will close the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)'s office in Washington, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

The U.S. media outlet quoted the planned remarks of U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton as saying that "the Trump administration will not keep the office open when the Palestinians refuse to start direct and meaningful negotiations with Israel."

Shooting in Alabama McDonald's leaves 1 dead, 4 injured

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- A man was killed and four others were wounded early Sunday during a shooting at a McDonald's near Auburn University in U.S. state of Alabama, police said.

Auburn Police said in press release that they received a call at approximately 2:24 a.m. local time that of shots fired in the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue.

Officers found a 20-year-old man dead from gunshot wounds and four others who were injured from the gunfire.

Three victims were transported to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Trump wants to stop subsidies to growing economies like India, China

Chicago, Sep 8 (PTI) President Donald Trump on Friday said he wants to stop the subsidies that growing economies like India and China have been receiving as he wants the US, which he considers as a "developing nation", to grow faster than anybody.

Addressing a fundraiser event in the Fargo city of North Dakota, he also accused the World Trade Organization (WTO) of allowing China to become a "great economic power".

Indian man among 3 killed in US bank shooting

New York, Sep 7; PTI:  A 25-year-old Indian man was among three people killed when a gunman opened fire in a bank building in the US city of Cincinnati before police shot him dead on Thursday.

Pruthviraj Kandepi, who hailed from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, was killed when 29-year-old Omar Enrique Santa Perez from the town of North Bend, Ohio, opened fire at the headquarters for the Fifth Third Bank near Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati, police said.

Trump poised to tax an additional $200B in Chinese imports

WASHINGTON; 6 Sep2018; (AP) — The Trump administration may be about to slap tariffs of up to 25 percent on an additional $200 billion in Chinese goods, escalating a confrontation between the world’s two biggest economies and likely squeezing U.S. companies that import everything from handbags to bicycle tires.

The administration could decide to begin taxing the imports — equal to nearly 40 percent of all the goods China sold the United States last year — after a public comment period ends Thursday.

Pakistan raises Kashmir issue in UN

United Nations, Sep 6 (PTI) Pakistan's focus for decades has been to undermine India's territorial integrity through the "explicit use of terrorism" as a state policy, New Delhi said in a stern response after Islamabad raked up the Kashmir issue at the UN.

Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi yet again raised the issue of Kashmir while addressing the High Level Forum on the Culture of Peace in the UN General Assembly Wednesday.
