Bangladesh Seeks Assistance From World Bank, Partners To Attain Development Goals

DHAKA, Jan 24 (NNN-BSS) – The Bangladeshi government made a plea to the development partners, including the World Bank (WB), to continue their support to the country to attain its development goals.

Bangladeshi Finance Minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal, made the call while addressing a function marking the celebration of 50 years of partnership between the Bangladeshi government and the World Bank, in the capital, Dhaka.

“We seek all-out support from our development partners, including the World Bank in this regard,” the minister was quoted as saying.

Bangladesh earns over 27 bln USD from exports in July-December of 2022

DHAKA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's total exports in the first half of the current 2022-23 fiscal year (July 2022-June 2023) reached over 27 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.58 percent year on year, the latest official data showed.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data posted on its website showed that Bangladesh earned 27,311.26 million dollars from exports in July-December of 2022, compared to 24,698.55 million dollars a year earlier.

Bangladesh installs cameras for tiger, deer, pig census in forests

DHAKA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Forest Department of Bangladesh has started setting up a total of 1,330 cameras at 665 spots in the Sundarbans, world's largest mangrove forests, to count tigers, deer and pigs.

Abu Naser, forest official of Sundarbans west zone and director of Sundarbans Tiger Conservation Project, told Bangladesh private news agency UNB that the camera installation work started at Kalabogi Ecotourism Center on Sunday morning, adding that apart from counting tigers, this year, the forest department will count deer and pigs as well under the project.

Bangladesh's largest annual trade fair kicks off

DHAKA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The 27th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), the largest annual commercial and trade event in Bangladesh, kicked off Sunday at the mega Chinese-built venue the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC).

The trade fair, which is being held at the BBCFEC located in Purbachal on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, will last for a month.

Bangladesh plans to build 6 more metro rail lines in capital by 2030

DHAKA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Thursday the country is to construct six more metro rail lines in the capital Dhaka by 2030.

He said a feasibility study is also conducted on the metro rail lines in Chattogram city, some 242 km southeast of Dhaka.

Quader revealed the plan at a press conference held a day after Bangladesh's first-ever metro began commercial operations on Wednesday.

Bangladesh not want foreign interference in its internal affairs: FM

DHAKA, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Monday that Bangladesh does not want interference from any country in Bangladesh's internal affairs.

"We're a mature country. We're a sovereign country. We are an independent country," leading private news agency UNB quoted him as saying at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

The foreign minister said that other countries do not need to give prescriptions to Bangladesh on democracy and human rights as these are deeply rooted in Bangladesh's DNA.

Bangladeshi PM Called For Boosting Food Production To Avert Crisis

DHAKA, Dec 20 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, yesterday, reiterated her call for boosting food production, to save the country from any possible trouble, amid the global economic recession.

“We have to increase our production and preserve them, so that our country must not plunge into any danger,” she was quoted as saying, by the United News of Bangladesh (UNB), adding that, the government had set up a number of modern silos to stock rice.

Bangladesh’s First-Ever Metro To Open In Capital

DHAKA, Dec 16 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh’s first-ever metro will begin commercial operations on Dec 28, easing gridlock in capital city Dhaka, an official said, yesterday.

“Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, will formally inaugurate the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT Line)-6 of the metro rail, from the capital’s Uttara to Agargaon area, at a function on Dec 28,” Bangladeshi Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary, ABM Amin Ullah Nuri told journalists yesterday.

He said that, all sorts of construction works were completed and the MRT Line-6 was ready for commercial operation.

Bangladeshi PM unveils vision to build "Smart Bangladesh" by 2041

DHAKA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday unveiled her government's vision to build a "Smart Bangladesh" by 2041.

"We'll make Bangladesh a developed country by 2041, and that Bangladesh will be a Smart Bangladesh," she was quoted as saying in a report by Bangladesh's leading private news agency UNB.

The prime minister made the remarks when attending the inaugural program of Digital Bangladesh Day 2022.

5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Rattled Bangladesh’s Capital

DHAKA, Dec 5 (NNN-BSS) – A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka and parts of the country this morning, according to a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Kazi Zebunnesa, a meteorologist from Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said that, the epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km in the Bay of Bengal.

The meteorologist said, the epicentre was 520 kilometres away from the Agargaon Seismic Centre in the capital, Dhaka. The earthquake occurred at around 9:02 a.m. local time.
