New air cargo routes launched between China, Pakistan

BEIJING, May 23 (APP): In a milestone move to bolster trade ties between China and Pakistan, two new air cargo routes have been inaugurated recently between the two countries, according to a statement released by Nanning Customs District of China.

It is learned that the new air routes will operate between Nanning, capital of China’s southwest autonomous region of Guangxi, and the Pakistani cities of Karachi and Lahore, China Economic Net (CEN) reported on Tuesday.

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways has dismissed three cabin crew members after a passenger accused them of discriminating against non-English speakers, in a case that drew criticism from Chinese state media.

Airline CEO Ronald Lam expressed his apologies Tuesday to the passenger and the community over the incident, which occurred on a flight from Chengdu in southwest China to Hong Kong on Sunday. He reiterated his company’s “zero tolerance” of any serious breach of its policies and code of conduct.

China fails Micron's products in security review, bars some purchases

BEIJING, May 21 (Reuters) - China's cyberspace regulator said on Sunday that products made by U.S. memory chip manufacturer Micron Technology (MU.O) had failed its network security review and that it would bar operators of key infrastructure from procuring from the firm.

According to China's broad definition of critical information infrastructure, this could include sectors ranging from transport to finance.

Another confirmed dead after fishing vessel capsizes in Indian Ocean

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- One more person was confirmed dead after a Chinese deep-sea fishing vessel capsized in the central Indian Ocean, China's Ministry of Transport said on Sunday.

The body was recovered from the captain's cabin of the capsized vessel at around 7 p.m. Saturday by divers from a Sri Lankan warship joining the search and rescue work.

The ship, Lupeng Yuanyu 028, has a small part of its bottom part out of the water and is drifting slowly to the southeast.

Chinese investigators blame building collapse that killed 54 on shoddy, illegal construction

BEIJING (AP) — The collapse of a nine-story building in central China that killed 54 people last year was caused by shoddy, illegal construction and local officials’ failure to enforce standards, according to an official report released Sunday.

At least nine people including the building owner were reported arrested following the April 2022 disaster in Changsha, which trapped survivors under rubble for up to five days. Nine people were injured.

China-Russia cooperation robust, has great potential — Chinese Foreign Ministry

"Cooperation between China and Russia, the largest neighbors and major countries with forming markets, is very robust, it has great potential," the diplomat said, commenting on a visit of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to China. He noted that during the visit, the sides "will hold a profound exchange of opinions on the subject of practical cooperation and the issues of mutual interest."
