TEHRAN, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The governors of the central banks of Iran and Qatar have called for boosting banking relations between the two countries, Tasnim News Agency reported Friday.
The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) made the announcement on Thursday after a meeting between the newly-appointed governor of CBI Mohammad Reza Farzin and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani in Qatar's capital Doha.
Farzin, who has led a diplomatic and banking delegation to Qatar, discussed with Sheikh Bandar the two countries' plan to sign a financial agreement, according to the report.
Bilateral relations between Iran and Qatar are moving in the direction of their goals, but the ties could be expanded further by signing a bilateral monetary agreement and participating in other multilateral agreements, said Farzin during the meeting.
Sheikh Bandar also urged boost of collaboration between the two countries' central banks as a means to expand bilateral ties.
