India: RSO paves way for astroturf after meeting

KANPUR: Indignation over hockey Astroturf on Green Park field appears to have resolved after thorough discussion among former players and the Regional Sports Officer here on Tuesday. They have followed sportsman’s spirit in finding out a satisfactory way. 

A delegation comprising of R Dixit, secretary, Kanpur Olympic Association, A Singh, secretary, District Football Association and other former players met the Regional Sports Officer Ajay Kumar Sethi on Tuesday.

Listening attentively to their points about which the group apprised him in detail, the RSO assured them of bringing equal importance to each game. He appeared quite considerate in accepting their views and making them known his analysis of the matter. He was amply clear in giving other sports the same treatment as was with the hockey Astroturf in Green Park here.

The Regional Sports officer even gave every guarantee of preserving importance to all the popular games. The measurement of the football ground was gauged. It was 100 X 70 yards in dimension. The status quo in regard to the game of handball ground would also be maintained.

It will be apt to mention here that there was prevailing some kind of resentments in regard to the making of hockey Astroturf on the Green Park ground. The group members experienced enough satisfaction after the meeting. They expressed their maximum happiness on the stand shown by the officer.
