India: Plying of e-buses in Kanpur halts for three days due to second mishap

Kanpur: In view of the second e-bus mishap within nearly two weeks, it has been decided by the authorities concerned to take off the electronic bus plying on the road." The plying of e-buses are being withdrawn for three days," said Raj Sekhar, divisional commissioner here.

The speeding e-bus whacked the people when traffic was on a halt due to red traffic light.

One of the injured was hurriedly taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital with multiple fractures, the police let out.

Praying for fast recovery of those hurt in the mishap, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the district administration officials to ensure all help to the injured.

He also instructed the officials to reach the location of the mishap.

As many as 6 bystanders were reported to be killed and 12 others seriously injured after the drunk driver of an e-bus lost control and smashed it into several vehicles here on January 30 night.

Two accidents involving e-buses in a short span of time have alarmed the roadways authorities.

The decision was taken in discussion with  commissioner of police, Vijay Singh Meena, who visited the location.

"During the three days, the buses and their drivers will undergo a rigorous fitness check.

The buses and drivers who clear the tests would be brought back to road," he added.

Meena said a panel constituting the DCP traffic and the ADM (city) had been formed to look into all the aspects.

The committee would also suggest ways to make these e-buses mechanically fit and also to assure safe driving to commuters.
