India: Hallet's Neurology dept lacks medicines to dispense

 Hallet Hospital

Kanpur: Not only medicines but doctors in the Neurology department of the Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College here are not conveniently available.

Prof RK Mauraya, SIC, Lala Lajpat Rai & Associated Hospitals, said, " Purchase of medicines for epilepsy has not been procured owing to its exclusion from rate contract list. There has been sent a letter for initiation of fresh tender. The order shall be placed after obtaining permission."

Reportedly, it was pointed out that the doctors were prescribing medicines of different companies.

The most shocking revelation was that if the patients happen to purchase medicines from another company they were told to return the purchased medicines.

As regards the number of doctors in the Neurology department, there are six regular doctors and one doctor works on contract.

The patients come from ten to twelve districts to this hospital for treatment.

Doctors feel no compunction in prescribing medicines from open markets. The patients remain under stress to buy due to its regular use.

Despite a separate counter for the distribution of medicines in the hospital, there is no dispersion of medicines.
