India: 6 kill as electric bus loses control at Tat Mill Turn in Kanpur

Kanpur: As many as six people were killed and many others injured after an electric bus mowed down several bystanders.

The bus after losing its control, near Tat Mill crossroad here on Sunday lost its direction.

According to available news reports, police said that a group of 15 people were present at the site when the fateful incident came up.

The health condition of the injured people in the accident, reported happened at around 11:30 pm, is said to be serious, according to the news.

The news also informs that as many as three cars and several bikes have been destroyed by the unstable electric bus during the incident.

The police said three victims have been identified, and efforts are underway to determine the identity of the rest, as was reported.

They are Shubham Sonkar (26), Twinkle Sonkar (25) and Arsalan (24).

According to the report, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Kanpur East, Pramod Kumar said the brakes of the electric bus stopped functioning when it reached the Tat Mill incline.

The vehicle lost control and rammed into other vehicles and pedestrians, he added.

Kumar said an investigation has been initiated in connection with the accident.

The driver of the bus escaped following the incident and the police are searching for him, as told.
