07 Dec 2021; MEMO: More than 40 Yemeni tribal leaders have called on all parties to the conflict in the country to start a "comprehensive and immediate ceasefire" and to reopen all humanitarian roads and corridors, Anadolu reported.
The Yemeni tribal leaders stressed in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the Yemeni Tribal Forum, which was held in the Jordanian capital Amman, on the need to "reopen all humanitarian roads and corridors, guarantee the flow of goods, facilitate the movement of Yemenis, respect the sanctity of the road and protect the Yemeni people."
The EU-backed forum was attended by UN special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Mission to Yemen Marion Lalisse, French Ambassador to Yemen Jean-Marie Safa amongst other diplomats.
In their statement, the tribal leaders called on "the parties to the conflict to release all detainees and prisoners" and urged all parties to respect "residential places and displacement camps and stop targeting them".
They renewed their call on all parties to immediately engage with the UN envoy to Yemen and mediators to present their visions for a solution, and to abide by and implement the Riyadh and Stockholm agreements to stop the bloodshed.
The ongoing war in Yemen has claimed more than 233,000 lives and left 80 per cent of the population – nearly 30 million people – in need of aid.
