India: UP govt's river ranching plan also covers Kanpur District

Kanpur: This district has been included among all the 12 districts where the Ganga Task Force takes the initiative of cleaning the river from nitrogen content. As many as 15 lakh fish of different varieties will be released every day into the stream of the river.

As the course of the river covers UP districts, the state government has made an effort.

We are making all-out efforts to clean the river and improve groundwater conservation. This endeavour is also a part of the plan, said Chief Secretary of Namami Gange.

N S Rehmani, Deputy Director of Fisheries Department said: River ranching is one of the processes to clean rivers and ecosystem. For this purpose, fish of different varieties are released.

He also pointed out: In the past 20 long years the number of fishes has been declined and remained 20% into the river.

Further detailing the scientific contour, he added that 1500 Kilograms of fish in an area of 4000 Km can contain one milligram per litre nitrogen waste.

If the nitrogen waste increases by 100 milligrams per day it begins to harm both the fish and human lives. Fish stops laying eggs owing to the nitrogen waste, he also maintained.
