India: Raped for 2 years by cop uncle in UP, young woman jumps into river

Kanpur: A 25-year-old woman, tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Ganga after being allegedly raped by her cop uncle. He has been serving as a head constable. She had been facing the dreadfulness over the last two years, police said here on Monday.

Divers and police rescued the woman who a native of Mirzapur district, had jumped into the river on Sunday, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pramod Kumar.

A case has been lodged in the matter based on the woman's complaint. She belongs to Mirzapur district.

In the complaint, the victim alleged that her uncle had invited her family to Allahabad to attend Kumbh in  the year 2019.

During her stay, the uncle took her to a hotel and gave her a sedated cold drink. After she fell unconscious, he raped her, as was disclosed by the woman. He even made a video to blackmail her, she aded.

Besides, the woman also claimed that her uncle allegedly raped her many times in Allahabad and Kanpur over the past two years.

The DSP said, "When her uncle got to know that she was pregnant, he allegedly asked her to abort the pregnancy by giving her a pill".

Earlier, the accused and his son again took her to a room in Kanpur's Chakeri area where they made another video of her to further blackmail her.

When she resisted, they started to threaten her with dire consequences. After escaping from their clutches, the woman made a call to the police helpline number and jumped into the river, it was reported.

Anyhow, she was saved by PRV personnel, the DCP said.

A case under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against the police constable and his son.

However, the father and son duo have not been arrested yet.

According to DCP (Traffic) BBGTS Murthy, the accused cop will be suspended after recording the victim's statement before the magistrate.

A medical analysis of the victim would also be conducted to substantiate the charges, he stated.
