India: Father's alertness prevails over hospital's nurse omission

Kanpur: It was certainly a case of medical negligence. A nurse assigned the job of caring for the patients has shown her utter carelessness while administering expired glucose to a child in the  emergency ward of Kanpur Dehat District hospital.

However, the child's father timely stepped in and spotted the expiry date on the bottle. He first stopped the drip.

Later, a ruckus took place at the hospital over the pertinent issue.

Taking cognisance of the situation, District Magistrate JP Singh formed a team with Additional CMO and ADM to investigate into the matter.

During the investigation, the team found  as many as 15 bottles of glucose with expiry date.

The emergency ward in-charge, nurse and pharmacist have glaringly been found at clear fault into the probe, according to the published news.

Officials asserted that the hospital staff found to be negligent will have to face a stop in salary hike and two-month break on their salary.

Ashwani Pandey, a resident of Rura, had brought his son to the hospital after he caught the fever.

The duty nurse Shashi Choudhary administered glucose that was expired on May 2021.

Ashwani was shocked to see the expiry date glucose bottle. Losing no time in video making he stopped the drip. The recorded video was proved to be evidentiary proof.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Rajiv Gupta ensured action in the case. The expiry date glucose bottles were seized and deposited at the CMS office.
